yunitsa: Vid instarec: So if, like me, you missed Suits when it first aired and want to know reasons why I've been all starry-eyed and in love with it, here is an excellent vid that sums it up: Run Run Run. (I've been wondering where all the good Suits vids are! For a talky lawyer story, it's really pretty and kinetic.) Initially, it makes the show look...rather more heterosexual and serious than it actually is, but then makes up for it with the closing montage of Harvey and Mike and their ridiculousness. The vid sort of has to frame all the heterosexual seriousness as backstory, because they're like that from the moment they meet. Provide me with more fic, universe!

Diary of an Evil Genius - Vid rec: We Are the Champions!: I have to admit, not getting to see SPN's awards presented live left me feeling kind of Um, did that really happen, or am I just THAT overtired? and therefore a little devoid of the bouncy-happy-joy I would have experienced if I'd seen it with my own two eyes on international television. But ash48 just solved that problem for me with the following video... HELLO BOUNCY-HAPPY-JOY!! :D

This all reminds me of last year's Frontierland and their back in time trip to the old west. This vid is a Recap vid by asdv set to the song Devil Went Down in Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band. I Suddenly Remembered My Charlemagne - Vid Rec: Sanctuary: I really, really love this vid. There aren't any flashy effects or quick cuts. The music doesn't have a super compelling beat. This vid is just pure structure: a story set to music with the perfect build and the perfect bend. And the perfect beginning. Because I imagine that if it's difficult to string together short clips to fit the music, it must be well nigh impossible to do it with limited editing...and that's what the opening of this vid is: just a perfect introduction, with lines of music over lines of dialogue, and then the lyrics start at exactly the right moment. It's absolutely lovely. Sanctuary For All (And None), by apatheticsong. Spoilers for the season finale. Oh, William. Oh, Helen.

Not Quite By Firelight - Vid Rec: This Close: Haven't recced a vid in a while - but when I saw the song used, I just had to click. The vidder uses the clips brilliantly to point out the parallels of Sam and Dean's journey, using actions that one starts and the other finishes. Love, love love love. Vid by likiel I also have to say that the song, 'This Close', by Brad Caleb Kain, is one of my all time favorite songs. It was used by maichan for a sweet charity vid in S4 and it is one of my top 5 favorite vids. It is still on youtube, but the audio has been blocked and I can't watch it at her alternate link so I literally emailed her about 2 years ago and had her send me the file so I could have a copy. Anyway, that vid is HERE for those of you who have never seen it. It is stunning. STUNNING and creepy awesome. stultiloquentia: Vid Rec Round-Up: Maximus Overture by such_heights - Tangled - Here is a proper rec for the horse vid. I managed to avoid the movie for a whole year, and now the stupid horse makes me want to see it. The horse strongly resembles members of my family. Also, such_heights' timing is amazing, not just on the obvious cymbal crashes, but the long phrases, such as the bit near the beginning when what'shishair is swinging in a big, silly arc on a vine. U + Ur Hand by accentuating_pinstripes - Glee, Badboy!Blaine/Kurt - This vidder took every badboy!Blaine AU in existence, shredded them all up together like last week's newpapers, and created a collage. The audio editing is so slick. None of the ambient noise that usually accompanies dialogue, and if you don't know the show, you'll never guess which lines have been spliced together from completely different scenes. Little Lion Man by wishyouwould - Glee, Blaine - Finally there's enough footage of this boy to do something more interesting than, Sparkly OTP 4eva!!! I approve. Even when he breaks my heart. My World by JamieTook - Glee, Karofsky - Not my ship, not my musical taste, and adorned with odd colour effects, which I spent probably more time than warranted trying to find a deeper meaning for, but they add a bit of visual interest without distracting from the narrative, so I goes with the flow. In spite of these things, I was impressed and moved. Just for starters, I loved seeing a vid labeled Kurtofsky (it's unrequited, save for its sweetly hopeful ending) that neither ignores nor villanizes Blaine. No Children by xandra - Community, Jeff/Britta - Never has there ever been a more perfect marriage of song and 'ship (or if there has, tell me in the comments!). I really need to park myself down in front of this show, don't I? Sorrow by greensilver - Captain America - Another, Oh, heck, now I need to watch the source! vid. I'm a sucker for anything involving The National, and they set the perfect mood, here: I don't wanna get over you, in Berninger's aching baritone. The use of colour is stunning, especially at the end. Identical Snowflakes by icepixie - Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers - This is in every respect the best vid I have seen all year.

paian | Sunday Vid Recs: A sad and sweet Daniel/Sha're vid, remastered and quite beautiful: You Will Be My Ain True Love by sol_se (link is to Youtube; there's also a Vimeo embed in the LJ entry). A rough-and-tumble Carter vid: Made of Scars by nan_darkness. It's too heavy on white-flash transitions for my taste, and ends a bit abruptly, but I like the way it focuses on the character's formidable toughness in a sometimes brutally violent job. Bait & Switch by ravenholdt. Adorable Daniel and Rodney and jealous John. A Happy Birthday Song for Jack O'Neill by Hoodat Whatzit, music by the Arrogant Worms. The end of this, where it gets to the names, especially made me laugh. Suddenly I See by purplefringe. Firefly, Inara and Kaylee friendship or ship, a supremely happy-making and smile-inducing celebration. My Little Serenity (theatrical trailer). Firefly fusion. There's apparently, like, a whole genre of these, including Doctor Whooves, but this was the first one I saw and it made me laugh. Walk This Way by kuwdora. Iron Man. Tony Stark/suit, Tony Stark/heroism, side of Tony/Pepper, Tony/Christine. More bouncy, dancey celebration, exhilarating and fun. What If Inception Were a Sitcom? by wyomingnot. It would start like this! And be very funny. And, to end with another Gateverse vid, kuwdora's tour de force High Voltage, which I remain unable to find adequate words for.

foursweatervests | Rec: Gee, I Wish I Was Back in the Army, the Army Was the Place to Find Romance!: To Touch The Face of God by destina Fandom: NASA WARNING: WOW. My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew.
And, while silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God. I can't quite explain why every time I watch this I cry, but I do. There's something about people willing to put their lives on the line for the good of mankind, or scientific exploration, or just a thirst to learn that is heartbreakingly wonderful. Sorrow by greensilver Fandom: Avengers, Marvel, Captain America WARNING: Uh, spoilers for Captain America, I would guess. Also, in case you didn't know, he is in the army at some point. (I have not seen the movie or read the comic books, and yet, I feel pretty unspoiled by this vid.) This encapsulates what it means to be Captain America. And, in true Marvel Comics fashion, it seems to mean to be sad, alone, and to be trying your hardest to do the right thing. And it makes me want to give you a hug and some Oreos.

foursweatervests | Rec: If I agree then it's just to appease you: Time by culinwen (Youtube account) Fandom: Harry Potter Summary: Time here all but means nothing - just shadows that move across the wall. They keep me company, but they don't ask of me - they don't say nothing at all. And I need just a little more silence. And I need just a little more time. WARNING: Well, I will say that I sobbed like a baby the first time I watched it. Don't judge me. You don't know me. I haven't come across a vid that better explores Draco as a young man. He's trapped; his life has already been chosen for him, and he's starting to re-think those choices. This vid is a coming-of-age story for a boy who is desperately trying to ignore what his moral compass is telling him in favor of what the people he respects and loves are telling him. In all honesty, this vid just makes me want to hug him and give him a mug of cocoa and tell him to perk up, Skipper, because the ship hasn't left port yet! I don't even know what that means, and yet. And yet.

thingswithwings | Community Recs!: (vid) No Children, by xandra - wonderful Britta/Jeff vid (no, really! come back!) This is prooooobably my favourite Mountain Goats song, which is saying a lot, and I've always wondered how to vid it - the thing is, you need a couple who are doomed and terrible for each other and petty and mean, but still funny. Britta and Jeff are exactly that couple. So this vid gives me nothing but joy, because what I actually love about the canonical Britta/Jeff relationship is their shared pettiness, the way they inevitably bring out the worst in each other, and how gross it is when they kiss. (vid) Party Hard by fizzyblogic - does every single thing that a dance vid ought to do; what more do I need to say? The best thing about it is that between the song choice and the clip choice it really showcases the dorky, nerdy, completely adorable kind of dancing that they do on Community - like dancing alone in your bedroom by yourself, the dancing you do because it feels good, not because it makes you look cool. Ilovethisshowyouguys. Oh, also, it's the first vid I've seen using the footage from 3x10 (the Glee episode) and boy is that footage awesome. (vid) I'll Be OK by leanwellback - sweet little ensemble piece that loves on that found family feel of the show, the way they all have each other, etc. One thing that I really like about this, and with the previous vid as well, is that they both use the expanded ensemble cast, including characters like Magnitude, Vickie, Neil, and so forth. Yay for that!

sakana17 | Fandom snowflake challenge 2: 1.) Cathain (Flyboys) vid by Jill. I've made a lot of vids with Jill and I still don't know how she does it. She mentioned she was making a Flyboys vid, and the next thing I know she shows me Cathain and my jaw is hitting the floor. It's simply breathtaking. The editing, the power, the emotional storyline without lyrical narration to drive it -- it's all done with motion, and rhythm, and edits. I frankly love all of her vids, but this one stuns me every time I see it. Available for download from
http://pteropus.com [requires password, which is auto-emailed] 2.) This is the Place (Once a Thief) vid by Lynn. I wish there were more Lynn vids in this world, for her carefully selected song choices, her brilliant eye, and her superb editing. This vid blows me away for how well it matches the mood of the show (IMO) and the inspired juxtapositions of visuals to the lyrics. It's also just a fun and interesting vid to watch, and it always makes me want to rewatch the series.

settiai | The Fandom Snowflake Challenge: Day #2: Hard Times Come Again No More by keiko_kirin and klia Fandom: Peacemakers So, there's this show called Peacemakers that aired on USA back in 2003. It lasted for nine episodes before the network decided that westerns weren't the genre to be in if they wanted to make money, so they cancelled it. Sadly, it's never been released on DVD, and it's only reaired once or twice since the cancellation, and that was on... CMT, if I remember correctly? Anyway, fandom being fandom, the show hasn't been completely forgotten, despite the fact it hasn't seen the light of television in about eight years and there's no good source available even online. It's a Yuletide staple, which always produces at least one awesome fic each year, and back in 2008, much to everyone's delight, Jill and Kay made a vid for it. And, hey, I couldn't resist reccing that vid. It's absolutely lovely, and it really sums up why I love this show so much (and still mourn it being cancelled so quickly, even after all this time).

some_stars: vid recs!: 1. 3 AM Call by shati (Heroes) I loved Niki SO MUCH, with so much anger at the show and at fandom for not noticing how amazing she was even despite everything. But I also just loved her, because she was amazing and captured my heart and I just loved looking at her face no matter what she was doing. And the thing about Niki is that so much of what attention the show and fandom did pay her was focused on Jessica--as if they were really two different characters, as if dissociative identity was Niki's actual superpower. Those were the exciting moments, that was what people wanted to see. But the moments that made me fall in love with the character were the moments this vid is all about--the searching, the dislocation, struggling to find herself and take control of her own life. Fighting to become whole. This isn't a triumphant vid; it's about being lost. It's about Niki, and I love it for that. (And also because it's really, really good.) 2. I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker by kuwdora (Stargate SG-1) I have to confess, I've never actually seen the whole last half of SG-1. It just kind of...passed me by, fannishly. But I know a fair bit about it, enough to love this vid, which is about the whole series and all the different Sams that we meet. The music choice surprised me at first but it works so well--the wistful tone, by turns funny and impassioned and sad, is just perfect for the idea of all these lives branching off of and orbiting the real Sam. 3. Whatever It Is by shinyjenni (Doctor Who) I have a very special place in my heart for multi-era Doctor Who vids, not least because I'd love to make one but am in no way capable of that kind of extended clip-searching. And this is one of my favorites--it's sweet and funny and brave and kind, a tribute to companions and all the amazing things they've done over the years.
