Oh how horrible :(. I probably jinxed you by stalking you before you left ;o.
Insurers are arseholes, but you gotta push them. My older sister used to do travel insurance (I think she still might do), so if they fuck you around I can ask her what you should be entitled to etc.
i cannot believe the left luggage was shut; how incompetent!
i am so sorry and ashamed all of this happened to you even if i am a "fucking Spaniard" (not all of us are so incompetent and believe me that German efficiency can be a myth sometimes)
my best friends computer got stolen there a few months ago in similar circumstances...
If the UK is part of the EU and Spain is part of the EU, why did you two need passports? When I was in Europe we only showed our passports when we entered and left the EU.
EU citizens have the right to free movement but we still have to have ID with us. You need passports (nothing else will do) on all international flights.
What's more, Britain has an opt-out on the Schengen agreement: the accord which created "borderless" borders. This means you always have show your passports when entering or leaving the UK.
Oh Bryn, how utterly grim! Next time you'll know better than to be a lovely person when someone drops their keys in front of you and waltzes off. Throw the keys at their head and see if you can injure them. Of course next time it'll probably just be some dork like me who's dropped their keys.
I hope you make up for it with a particularly terrific time in Israel and whatnot.
