I watched X-Files through Season 6, I think. I started 7 from a friend's videotaped and got sidetracked b/c SB doesn't like it for what I think are annoying reasons. I found the fact that a new movie was coming out to be a shocker. I apparently missed the hype. It seems so long ago now, back with Babylon 5.

Thing about Sam is that despite Amanda Tapping's best efforts, the writers kept trying to sentimentalize her. Everytime there's an alt.Sam, the major story point seems to be about romance, and there's an undercurrent of "poor Sam has to choose between head and heart." They're even so unsubtle as to manifest all this with hair length - when she's "got" a man, her hair is longer. When she's "just" a professional, it stays shorter (and, IMHO, more flattering).
