Last night I tried week 3, day 1 of the program, day 5 for me. For the first time, I couldn’t do it. Since I can do over 30 pushups in a set when not exhausted, that qualifies me for column 3 again, which told me to do 25, 17, 17, 15 and 25+. I’m sorry, but I think they are full of it. That is a big bump. Now I'm a bit intimidated.

I'd say yeah, repeat W3D2 until you can do it. That's Speirs' recommendation.

Two runs a week is pretty good, all things considered! My running frequency has dropped considerably with the current alternating weather of horrible heat and torrential rain, although I did go for a half-hour run the other day.

The backpack is probably a big part of the problem for all the reason you've mentioned.

I'm sure the heat isn't helping either. Most of my runs have been at 5:30 pm in 90 degree heat and high humidity. Since they are 20 minute runs, I don't think dehydration or overheating is an issue, and I don't FEEL like the heat is taking anything out of me.

I sure hope the running store has a better alternative. Tonight I hope to run, and I have no choice but to bring the pack.
