We recently purchased two huge new bookcases to go on either side of the fireplace in our family room. Today I decided to start populating them with our DVD collection. At first, I decided roughly that one bookcase would be speculative fiction and the other everything else. I have filled the SF bookshelf and I'm not out ot discs for it. Go

I think "Jesus Christ, Superstar", "Commando", and the Muppets would be on the "other" shelf for me.
Not a lot else.
(Wait, don't we also have a copy of "Dirty Dancing"...?)

EDIT: Of course, I'm quite sure I have WAY more books than you do :) :)

Well, to be fair, each case has 6 shelves, and I decided the first two shelves on each would be for other things. On the other hand, there are still 4 packed boxes of DVDs. I don't really take any responsibility for this. I have chosen and purchased maybe 6 DVDs in my whole life. Hubby bought all the rest. I rather wish we didn't have that many.

I wonder what makes you think this? Is it simply because you have WAY more books than most people, or something particular that I said? I think you are right, but I'm not sure it's by that much. It's hard for me to estimate how many books we have since they have never all been out together.

As for books, I just don't know anyone who has half the books we have. It essentially my and SB's lifetime collection, plus his father's lifetime collection, and when we moved in it was something to the total of 60 book boxes, 40 of which came from his father. I didn't see anywhere near that number of books when I visited you at your loft, but I know you had a lot of stuff boxed up. Do you have a lot of books in boxes?

We've been paring down both our DVD and book collection. We're just slowly whittling away things we think we won't ever bother to read again. It seems like heresy, getting rid of books, but most of them go to second-hand stores, so I don't feel so bad.
