I think I am mostly over my affront of getting punished for my good deed. He cooled down a little when I explained why I did it and where I had put all the stuff he was most concerned about. In some cases, I had actually done what he intended with it. Also right away I brought back up a few empty boxes that he explained he wasn't saving, he just had them waiting to get cut down for recycling. When I brought them up he immediately cut them down and put them in the recycle bucket. Then he proceeded sweep the whole garage and do the last of the re-organization that I hadn't got to. Then he we through the SW toys. I had not intended for him to feel like he had to do all that stuff right away, but it was at least in some ways a peace offering and a signal that once the project was started, he was interested in seeing it through.
In retrospect, going deliberately behind his back because I knew better was a disrespectful thing to do.

And I don't think I'm a truly epic slob. I do have a clutter threshold; it's just a lot higher than his.
The disorder of my environment, even the messes I make myself and only I can clean up aren't closely related to my threshold. I probably have a medium clutter threshold. It's just that I feel like I never have enough time to keep things below my threshold.
Sometimes I get depressed when things get above my clutter threshold, but often I have the more useful reaction of wanting to attack and tidy everything.I get the urge whenever I see the clutter, but usually I don't have any time to follow the urge. Also, there is a lot of stuff that daunts me because I really don't know what to do with it. I will attack a dirty kitchen rather quickly because I know what to do with all the stuff, but stack of mail thwarts me ( ... )
