Jolly Rogers

I don't want to jinx anything, but the writing is going moderately well. I have a short story that I think I will make it to the end of, and another couple brewing for later. I am a slow and indolent writer, and only managing to produce ~1000 words a day, but who cares, I have no NaNoWriMo-style end-of-month target, and at least this is ( Read more... )

It only makes you "no better than they are" if you fuck them in the ear after you kill them.

The answer to the first question is "yes" to both or "it depends on the people".

I think the relationship in Juno is squicky once it starts becoming explicitly clear that he's viewing her as a potential replacement for his wife. I remember when I saw it in the cinema there was an audible mass gasp of disgust from the audience when he started dancing close with her and then came out with the "I want to get a divorce".

Mmm, though of course even before that nasty scene, there's a lot of people going "er... Juno, what were you doing going round to his house?", and the wife home on them and "oh... I didn't expect to see you here, Juno". So there's a strong suggestion that it's a bad and suspect idea, even before Mark proves everyone's worst fears correct ( ... )

On the DVD the writer and director say that they considered having a scene at the end where Juno spots Mark in a record store with a teenage girlfriend, but thought it was too hard on him.

1) While theoretically and I'm sure occasionally irl fine, in practice the large majority of times it will be creepy. NB I'm assuming that the teenager is of the preferred sexual partner gender for the older person in your question, as in the Juno case. If not, much less problematic.

2) I don't think you're "no better than they are", but I do think murder is murder.

3) No time alas.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone playing a roleplaying game refuse to slit the throat of an orc on moral grounds

My uncle did, once. It was one little orc on its own in a dungeon, and he felt sorry for it. His colleagues didn't. Needless to say, the orc turned out to be a shapeshifted dragon, and beat the living shit out of everyone else.

... at least, that's how he told me the story. I would have been a bit young for roleplaying at the time, if I was even born.
