My brother just graduated from WMU with a degree in Geography. Unfortunately, with 20% unemployment in Michigan, he's having trouble finding a job. He's willing to relocate and begin with a starter job in pretty much any field. (His girlfriend is also looking and has a degree in urban planning). Just got back from Shek's AC trip. Lost money on poker for a few hours while getting free drinks. Right before I left the casino I bet one game of roulette on "Lucky 13" (that was the number of people in our group). The number hit, and I ended up coming out ahead... or at least broke even after travel expenses. Long day.

I was in Michigan over the 4th. In Kalamazoo the weather is always a primary topic of conversation-- even more than usual this time. On the day I arrived we had an incredibly nasty thunderstorm that wrecked the town and took out power for several days. Went to the NBA Draft last night at MSG. It's probably easier to hear what is going on if you watch it on TV, but it was fun to be there in person. Went to see Stevie Wonder last night at Jones Beach. The show was awesome, obviously. He spent a lot of time fucking around-- jamming, talking with the crowd and bringing people on stage, but as soon as he and the band started playing, the crowd was transfixed. Looking out my window, and damned if it isn't snowing... very weird.

Bad luck all round yesterday-- sat down to watch the NBA Finals, and the bulb for our projector burns out. Started to grill up a steak, and the propane runs out. Maybe some sort of delayed effect from Friday the 13th?

The spring heat wave is finally over. It's been over 90 for the past five days, and pushing 100 for the past three... difficult to even go outside. My department moved into a new office on Monday, across the street from our old building. It was sad to see the Pistons lose to Boston, but they can only blame themselves. You can't lose two games at home and expect to win. I'm not sure it was his fault this year, but it looks like the blame is landing on Flip Saunders. He's gone... is 'Sheed next?

Stayed up to watch the triple overtime Wings game. No sports luck lately.

Saw The Raconteurs on Saturday. The band was amazing-- they played together in sync perfectly and really kicked ass, particularly in encore (Salute Your Solution/Broken Boy Soldiers/Many Shades of Black/Carolina Drama).
