State of Veronica - Autumn in Portland Edition

Sep 05, 2012 21:26

So, a few weeks ago, I made a brief post about my cotton candy bingo card and mentioned that I'd update personal stuff soon. I was all prepared to talk about how great everything was, how much I love Portland, how bright things were looking for ol' V. But even then, dark clouds were forming, and it's taken until now to see how things were going to ( Read more... )

Eeep for redundancies... (what's RIF, btw? Probably really obvious, but...? *g*) but yeay that you're still at work and you're enjoying work, and you have your place and your cats and your good going on! It makes such a difference to live somewhere that you like... and the feeling that you can relax, and write!

Total sympathies about having to meet new people outside work (and hopefully make friends!) - but there must be nice people in Portland, right...? Come to think of it, I think I know one of them - and you've actually got one thing in common already, too... I could hook you up if you're both up for it...? *g*

Oh, it's not obvious, it's fancy corporate-speak - RIF = Reduction In Force. So fancy for such a horrible thing.

Yeah, it's rather lovely to feel like I can survive no matter what happens, something I guess I learned after the first go 'round. In the meantime I'll enjoy what I have and be open to other opportunities.

As for your offer for an intro - yes, please, I am totally up for it. It's very easy for me to go to work and go home and live in my head way too much, so finding someone with something in common that doesn't involve work is exactly what I need to do. And, you know, I'm the least scary person I know:), but if your friend isn't into the idea, I completely understand.

Excellent - I'm 95% sure it's Portland she's in, so I'll drop her a line. I think she's away for a long weekend at the moment, so it'll probably be next week before I get back to you (or she does, maybe... *g*) but one of us will!

I'm so glad you're safe!! And more importantly, debt-free. It makes a huge difference on how you view the future!!

And yes, you definitely need to go out and explore Portland!!

Hang in there!!!

Yeah, I'm thinking I have a lot to be thankful for, no matter what happens. I just need to stay smart and remember to enjoy life, not worry all the time about what may or may not happen in the future.

So far, I've fallen in love with the many farmer's markets (two of which are right downtown near my office) and the street food scene (also less than three blocks away). I do love being in a city again *g*.

Hope all is well with you and the boys!

Good for you for taking everything in stride--you can't control what happens in your job and all you can do is ride out all of the changes.

That is a lesson I'm really learning - I didn't have control in January and I didn't have control in August. All I can control is my reaction to whatever happens and to plan for everything - plan, not worry *g*.

Thanks for the encouragement - hope all is well with you!
