Standard 40k game - Marines vs. Necron
Four quadrants, capture the most points to score. Highest score wins.

This was a quick 500 point fight between Khime and me. This was my first 40k fight, so it was more a demo than a real battle. Khime chose to use his Necron army and gave me access to his Space Marine army.

In an Alpha-level mission, it's all about objectives. No victory points, just doing what you're supposed to. So I split my forces in half, to maximize security table quarters. What I forgot (and seem to consistently forget) is that if your forces are DEAD, they can't secure objectives, so splitting my forces only really served to pit half my army against all of his. I'm not sure why I thought the Marines would go after all of my forces instead of focusing on one flank ( ... )

The huge downside to the marines (which you won't see when fighting necros, so much, since they're so expensive) is that marines have very few warm bodies on the table. Once you can get past that annoying 3+ save, they dissapear really quickly. Marines don't have 'meat shield' troops the way other armies do.

To be fair, AP3 or better weapons are fairly rare and expensive. But they REALLY hurt the marines, whereas they're more of an annoyance to, say, the Sisters.

If you ever want to try to take some Eldar (light or dark) or the Sisters on, let me know! :)

I've always loved the Sisters but I think I've chosen my army - Slaanesh Chaos. :D

And I could totally see marines being taken out wholesale by some good shots with AP3 weapons, they seem to be really balanced well against anything
