Filipino stuff.. gaspardua June 26 2008, 18:04:59 UTC
It's your lucky day. I know a bit about Filipino food and stuff.

"Tang ina mo" it means something like "Your mother is a whore/bitch" in tagalog. Don't say it or you will be call "bastos", which means rude. "Salamat" means "Thank you".

Ok, so some of their food is bizarre. Jollybee's is definitely your best bet. They love their spaghetti. It's not odd to see hot dogs in the spaghetti.

Lumpia is like an egg roll. It's usually filled with some type of meat.
Dinuguan is blood and meat stew. Don't order it! Unless you're into that.
Halo-halo is a desert made of shaved ice and milk. Usually has crazy stuff mixed into it.
Pancit is like a noodle dish.

Hope this helps!

I think I saw Lumpia at the cafeteria, although I didn't catch the name at the time. Definitely had some crazy stuff in it. I'll keep an eye out for Dinuguan - not feeling quite that adventurous. The spaghetti at Jollybee's had hot dogs in it, and the sauce was definitely sweeter than what we expect at your average Olive Garden, but once I adjusted to it, it was pretty good. Didn't quite have the stomach for the pink sauce on the burgers, though.

Ha ha. Welcome to the terror of driving in Asia:) Saudi Arabia was like that, too. It was fun going up the escarpment, let me tell you.
But it's so awesome that you get to be there for work! I wish my job would send me places!
Hope all is going well with you:)
