Can you be manipulated if you know that you are so being at the time you take the decision to follow a given course of action?

That depends entirely on how good at manipulation the manipulator is.

Aaand my paranoia kicks in big time.

Yes as long as it is a manipulation I want :P

Surely that depends if the situation allows any alternative course of action? If you have arrived at a situation where you have no practical alternative course of action, then yes.

There is always an alternative course of action no matter how far down a path you have gone. You might not like the alternatives but they are there.

If the thing you are being manipulated to do is the same as what you would be doing anyway, then it doesn't really matter! :)

Joining kingandy on the paranoia train.

I would argue "yes", unless you consciously knew you wanted it beforehand; someone is convincing you to do something, whether or not it actually *is* a good idea, you are being "manipulated" in some way. This is particularly valid if you were in any form of doubt before.

In most decisions you don't care one way or another so allowing someone else to convince you is an easy solution and you get thier thanks too.

No need to be paranoid, this is the end of a drunken conversation when such a thought occurred to me and i wanted to pop it down so I could hear my friends views on it.
