Our new guests are quite pleasant people, I find, and there is a noticeable family resemblance. I find them to be quite charming conversationalists. My experiment was a success. Suddenly, these books became a great deal more useful. The potential applications of this are staggering and must be explored more thoroughly in the future when I'm not so exhausted. I've progressed further in my studies of this book, mostly thanks to one who offered me advice on how to use it. Thus far, the stories that messages and entries can be magically locked appear to be true. I think I may wind up using this as a personal journal, after all, so long as I can maintain my privacy.

I've been too busy of late to experiment any more with this book. Mother says it's possible to write messages specifically for the eyes of one person, that are completely secure, but offered little explanation about how to do this. These books are quite the curiosity, aren't they? Mother found two of them tucked away in a chest in one of the storage rooms at the manor. Naturally, she kept one of them for herself for studying purposes but she gave me the other to amuse myself on days I'm less busy. They seem quite fascinating.
