I love the picture: Ceci n'est pas un smartphone. French and an art historical reference. Awesomeness.

Right before I saw your blog, I finished a conversation with my brother who was also ranting about the iphone. That is way too much for a phone but their ipods started out pretty expensive and their prices dropped a lot in a short period of time so the same may happen with the iphone.

I also think that $600 is way too much for a PS3 piece of crap. But I'm a nintendo fangirl and I have to get back to my Legend of Zelda game that I'm playing on my brother's $250 Wii (which by the way, kicks the PS3's ass).

I agree that $600 is too much for just a game console. But the PS3 is more than a gaming device. It's a "one stop entertainment center". And if you look at it that way, its pretty economical. It's the cheapest blu-ray player out there.

I agree with that... but at the same time the iPhone is a lot more than just a phone and mp3 player. We're all downplaying the little gadget. Afterall, it's a phone, camera, mp3 player, portable drive, portable video file player, contact/address book(like any other phone... lol), organizer, wireless access to your email/news/weather/googlemaps(smaller version of a laptop) and whatever else.

I'm actually more concerned with how durable the iPhone really is, especially if you're gonna shell out $600USD+ on it. I mean, iPods (especially the nano) were very suceptible to scratches which makes me think that this little gadget will look hot only on the first day especially since it's a touch screen. Let's face it, mobile phones get dropped... can the iPhone withstand that and stay in near-perfect condition? If you dropped it the wrong way you wouldn't even be able to read the screen, provided it didn't break in the fall.

But that's just my rambling... lol... I'm gonna shut up now xD

How about dropping... in a toilet! I have heard of a LOT of people that drop their cell phones or blackberries in the toilet. Getting wet = no longer a working device. And warranty exchanges are not covered by water damage!

I agree. I love Apple and their products(even though the ones here at SIUE are irritating at time....all technology is at times. ^_^) but I'm wondering how often someone is going to utilize those functions, the battery's endurance, the phone's endurance, as well as how easy it will be to use all of those functions as well as the extra cost of minutes and all. All in all, I'd love to have a chocolate but the more I think about it, I would rather have these devices separate so I don't have to worry about my phone battery going dead when I really need it or needing more minutes. I love the advertising they've done for this as well as for some of the other all in one phones but I feel that they are putting features on them that aren't really needed nor are they going to be utilized for the price that they are paying. Solution, go buy a phone, a Wii or a NDSL and wait till the kinks are out of the PS3 and you will have more fun with all of those that you will with a tiny phone screen. Sorry Apple, love you but this is just not ( ... )

I think there are a lot of people that want their devices to have these extra features, like a mp3-playing cell phone. However, there are just as many people, like you said, that want these devices separate. I know several employees here that have both a Blackberry (for email only) AND a cell phone. Probably for most of the same reasons... if their email device dies, they still have a cell phone to use. Or vice versa.

The iPhone will sell. Even at $600 and even with such small space (it's disappointing, but I don't know how they could fit any more storage on the thing right now.) Apple will develop more first party apps for it that will upgrade it to "true" smartphone status, if it doesn't seem to be there already.

This is how I know:
MacRumors forums, 2001: First Gen iPods Announced, Nerds Disappointed and Cry Doom for Apple.I love the iPhone's interface as it was demonstrated. It's a sexy product and people will pay for sexy. I think that's why $600 doesn't seem so outrageous. Let's say I buy a RAZR and an 8 gig Nano. Amazon has a nice unlocked RAZR for about $225. The 8 Gig Nano costs $230 or so on Amazon. So total is $555 for two devices when blended together could do the things that the iPhone is advertised to do, maybe not as well. (The interface for the iPhone is much more impressive than what I've seen on Motorola's stuff ( ... )

It's true, there are plenty of people that will pay for "sexy". But there are just as many people that will just go for the simple freebie. That'd be an interesting survey... when it comes time for a person to upgrade their cell phone, how many people go with the cheap phone, and how many look at the cool features, etc ( ... )
