Hey everyone! I just remembered that I may not be in town on the 20th when the Main Character theme is supposed to be posted... And sadly it's not ready D; I'll get to it soon but for now I'm gonna post a (rather large) theme! As usual, all the community rules apply for the themes. If you need a refresher, check the
profile :) And if ya haven't filled out the application yet, it's there!
It seems to be a trend for them to help with our fighting game themes, but you have to thank
breyzyyin for this Street Fighter theme! There's a total of (brace yourself) 60 options! :O They did take out all of the "evil"/specialized versions of characters since it isn't expected that anyone would be stamped as them (plus they said they're basically palette swaps XD) Plus characters who only show up in the first SF and the EX games aren't options since they're not really story-based or have much in the way of personality.
Ryu
"True victory is to give all of yourself, without regret."
Ryu is the main character and "hero" of the Street Fighter series. Ryu is usually a silent, humble, serious individual whose severity is often juxtaposed against the light-hearted, fiery persona of his best friend, Ken. He travels the globe with a stern nature, often appearing to others as boring or detached. On rare occasions, Ryu shows a very bad sense of humor. Cool and calculating, patience is Ryu's biggest strength. Ryu's overarching goal is to become a total master of his fighting style. To this end, Ryu plays the part of the wandering warrior, and takes both his travels and his training very seriously. Although he appears to be aloof and unemotional, Ryu is actually a kind and good-hearted person. He respects others with skills equal to his own and holds "heroic" figures in high regard. By the time of SFIII, it seems that Ryu has developed a somewhat more friendly personality. He is still very quiet and reserved, but is willing to greet people with a smile and some kind advice, very much like his master Gouken. There is, however, a dark side to Ryu. His drive to improve himself, no matter the difficulty, can sometimes develop into a drive to win and to be the best, no matter what the cost, as these two goals are so dangerously similar. This darker drive is fed by, and in turn feeds, the Satsui no Hadou within him, an influence which Ryu must constantly fight to suppress. Ryu's desire to be better can sometimes make his advice to his defeated opponents seem more arrogant and judgmental than Gouken's, though he is fundamentally well-intentioned. In times when his inner darkness threatens to overcome him, Ryu relies on his friends - primarily Ken, Chun-Li, and Sakura - to keep him grounded and snap him out of it.
Alex
"You can't escape!"
Alex first appeared in SFIII as the game's protagonist. Alex is a fighter from Manhattan who left his parents' home when he was still young. At the time of SFIII, Alex lived with his father's friend Tom and Tom's young daughter Patricia, while spending every day training at the martial arts gym managed by Tom. Despite Tom's veteran status, he is said to be one of the best martial art instructors within the U.S. military. When Tom is defeated by Gill, Alex seeks to avenge him. After fighting numerous veteran warriors from around the world, Alex began to realize the fear and profoundness of fighting. Alex was driven by a desire within himself he wasn't aware of, but which he was unable to repress. Driven by the urge to once again face a worthy opponent, Alex leaves Tom and Patricia for another journey. Tom allows him to go, letting Alex make his own decisions. Insensitive and a little abrasive, Alex's bold personality tends to get him in very hot water...but, he is overall a kind-hearted person who dislikes those who prey on the weak.
Chun-Li
"So, do you have anything to say in your defense?"
Chun-Li is the first female playable character to appear in a 1-on-1 fighting game. She is generally a cheerful woman, often showing happiness and excitement when she wins a fight, mainly with her friends. But as part of Interpol, Chun-Li takes her job very seriously and will try her best to complete a mission, but sometimes gets overworked and easily exhausted. When it comes to fighting, Chun-Li tends to get quite competitive with other female fighters, but after her fights with a few of them she becomes allies with them and possibly even friends. She also wants to become stronger due to experience in fighting her enemy M. Bison. She also has a strong admiration for Ryu and is currently eager to challenge him to improve her skills (and possibly impress him). Overall, Chun-Li is cheerful, resourceful, and dedicated. While in fighting she is serious and never takes kindly to losing.
Ken Masters
"If you wanna just slug it out, I can do that too! Though, I'd rather show off my skills!"
Ken is one of the main characters from the SF series alongside Ryu. Like Ryu, Ken's goal is to test his power against many different fighters and strive to become stronger. While Ryu is the serious and stoic of the two, Ken is the complete opposite: he's flashy, unorthodox and unpredictable. He has a giant ego and constantly reminds his opponents about his greatness. While he can be brash, egotistical, and arrogant at times, however his heart is pure. He is generally kind, extremely friendly, a good person and is very easygoing. He never backs down from a fight no matter how difficult it looks. Like Ryu, he does believe in hard work, endurance, and discipline. He always gives his opponents, whether it is his master Gouken or his main rival/best friend Ryu, the utmost respect. He is also a worrywart when it comes to his family. He nearly didn't enter the tournament in SFIV because he didn't want to leave his wife, Eliza, so close to her due date, and only entered when she assured him she'd be fine. He still called her to check in and tell her to be careful on stairs.
Abel
"I'm sorry, but there are things I must do."
Abel is a mixed martial artist who first appeared in SFIV. He is described as a amnesiac, a "man with no past" looking to defeat surviving members of Shadaloo. Later in the game, it is revealed that he is the same as Seth, which explains the changes in eye color Abel experiences when he does his Soulless Ultra Combo. He believes himself to be a French mercenary, but does not know where he was born. It is established Abel once worked for a French mercenary group, but knew nothing of his past. Abel is a big fan of Fei Long because of his movies, and also recognises Zangief most likely from watching wrestling. Abel has a quiet nature that is often mistaken for aloofness and emotional detachment. In truth, however, Abel is a kind and compassionate man, though his amnesia has caused him to develop a tough outer persona. By the time of Super SFIV, though he remains somewhat aloof, Abel has become more sociable and friendly to his allies: thanking Chun-Li and giving El Fuerte chocolate. He also shows a soft spot and even a childlike fondness for puppies and bears.
Adon
"Nothing beats Muay Thai!"
Compared to the other fighters, Adon is shown to have a very great ego and is quite cocky, as well as boastful of his abilities. He tends to underestimate certain fighters, such as Ryu. He is often seen smiling and is truly arrogant towards Sagat, as he says that he will see fighters of Muay Thai worshiping him as a "god". Adon became Sagat's student three years after Sagat became God of Muay Thai. Frequently likened to a "lesser version of Sagat", even though he has strived to differentiate himself with more acrobatic techniques, Adon enters the first World Warrior tournament to prove he is more than that. The cocky Adon lets his guard down when he faces Ryu, who takes him out with a single Shoryuken. Afterwards, Ryu goes on to defeat Sagat, which leads to Adon's eventual breakdown. Adon is not mad at Ryu for defeating him, he is mad at Sagat for being unable to uphold Muay Thai's honor (conveniently forgetting how Ryu had bested him during the World Warrior tournament). In Super SFIV, Sagat comes to watch one of Adon's matches, but Adon, taunting Sagat, challenges him to a fight. The two face off in the ring and Adon is defeated by a single Tiger Destruction. Adon, developing fresh contempt for Sagat, is still unimpressed and considers him a disgrace to Muay Thai since losing to Ryu. Declaring that he has lost all respect for his former mentor, he sets out to participate in S.I.N's tournament and end Sagat's career. How he fares in the tournament is unknown, but when Sagat returns to his home, Adon watches from a cliff above, believing that Sagat has gone soft. Vowing never to be like him, Adon returns to his career to focus on creating "a new Muay Thai legend".
Akuma
"The true fighter can stare death in the face and lash out in rage against it!"
Akuma is known as "The Supreme Master of the Fist." He is Gouken's younger brother and Ryu's adoptive uncle. Akuma is a cold and extremely powerful warrior whose sole purpose of existance is to hone his fighting skills by battling and destroying strong foes. He rarely displays any sign of emotions (aside from occasional bursts of anger) and almost never smiles. He takes his trainings very seriously (and deals brutally with those who dare interrupt him) and likes to occasionally test himself against worthy rivals such as Gen and Oro. In combat, Akuma almost never resorts to his true strength since he has yet to find an opponent who is to withstand the full extent of his powers. Akuma detests his brother Gouken for not giving in to the dark side of their arts which is, according to Akuma, the way they were intended to be used. He also blames Gouken for sealing off the darkness within Ryu thus preventing Ryu from reaching his true potential. This forces Akuma to give up on his planned duel with Ryu as he believes that only a fellow practitioner of Satsui no Hado can one day hope to defeat him. Akuma refers to himself as a 'denizen of hell' and 'evil incarnate' and is seen as such by many. Most of the time, Akuma abides the code of the warrior. He fights to improve his skills, defeat powerful foes or, in rare occasions, to gauge other's abilities. Although he killed his teacher (Goutetsu) and believed he did the same with his brother (Gouken), Akuma did so in combat, and thus can be said to have not transgressed on his principles. He fights only warriors that he deems worthy or the ones he believes have the potential to become the best. He backed out of a duel with Gen once he found out that Gen was fatally ill. Although Akuma usually prefers an even bout, it is not uncommon for him to deliver a lethal sneak attack at an unprepared opponent. The purpose of this can perhaps be found in the evil nature of Satsui no Hado itself which could have corrupted Akuma's ways.
Balrog
"I've met punching bags more fun and interesting than you!"
Balrog is a self-centered, hot-tempered, arrogant, flippant, sadistic, and belligerent pugilist who possesses an insatiable urge for money and a vicious mean streak. His main reasons and motivation for joining Shadaloo and M. Bison throughout the SF series have always been to attain massive wealth, fame and glory so he can be on easy street for life. For that motivation alone, Balrog would cheat, steal or even kill to accomplish this. Honor is something Balrog does not acknowledge. Despite being a once great prize boxer, Balrog has intentionally cheated in his fights whenever he felt like it; his moveset usually includes a headbutt, and during his 2nd Ultra Combo, he stomps on his opponent's foot and nails them with an elbow shot, which is considered illegal in boxing. In addition, he even accidentally killed one of his opponents once. Balrog is also shown to not be very smart; when M. Bison was believed to be dead after the events of SF Alpha 3, the role of leader of the organization fell to him and it collapsed immediately, which forced him to work security at casinos and other places just to get by. Balrog also displays an extreme affinity for women, with Chun-Li being the only exception.
Birdie
"I'm number one."
Growing up on the streets, Birdie was a pro-wrestler thrown out of the league for his violent temper and rule-breaking ways. After drifting around as a bouncer for several years, he was offered a position as a member of a ruthless drug ring called Shadaloo. Seeing opportunity in this, he accepted and immediately started planning to overthrow whoever he found leading the organization. A true fighter of the streets, Birdie's fighting style is an unrefined, sloppy combination of barroom brawling and crushing wrestling maneuvers. He relies on hitting his opponent hard and fast before they have a chance to evaluate the weaknesses in his technique. With more strength than most of the fighters he faces, his overpowering fists and rock solid head butts are usually enough to ensure his victory. Birdie sees Zangief as a rival, not because of his wrestling background but because he perceives Zangief's mohawk as a challenge. In the SF Alpha manga and anime, Birdie is shown in a surprisingly much more positive fashion...portrayed as a violent, but honorable ally. In the former, he is a leader of a group of drug dealers, but is a close friend and companion to Ryu, as Ryu was the first person other than his own mother to be kind to him. He even teams up with Chun-Li who was trying to arrest him in order to stop his friend from killing everyone due to the influence of the Satsui no Hadou. In the latter, he is the most prominent of the Alpha characters, and is depicted as still arrogant and violent...but also oddly noble and heroic.
James "Jimmy" Blanka
"You'll never survive in a jungle!"
A feral man from the Brazilian jungle with green skin and the ability to generate electricity, he is a childhood friend of Dan Hibiki, whose life he once saved. The lone survivor of a plane crash as a young child, Blanka is eventually reunited with his mother in SFII. In Super SFIV, Blanka leaves his mother because people kept staring at him, and goes to Hong-Kong with Dan. He, Dan and Sakura then decide to enter the S.I.N. tournament, each for their own reasons...with Blanka himself wanting to win and earn people's respect. It is revealed that his mother went looking for him and they are reunited, with Blanka resolving not to be concerned by the staring faces, since everything will be okay as long as he's with his "mama". He goes home, but isn't there long before he finds out that local visitors have arrived at his home to meet him and that he now has many new friends in town. Blanka is generally passive and docile, but when angered, his bestiality takes over and he attacks like a wild animal let loose from a cage.
Cammy White
"...Do you also like cats?"
Cammy is also known by the codename "Killer Bee." She is a young woman who belongs to the Delta Red team in the Secret Intelligence Services' Special Forces Unit. She was formerly one of M.Bison's brainwashed soldiers (called "The Dolls"), but has since reverted to her former self and now works closely with her comrades. Cammy is a very serious-yet-kindhearted woman that can be a bit of a tomboy. She puts her work first and is dedicated to hunting down Shadaloo. When in battle, Cammy shows complete focus and determination and often times speaks in a direct and confrontational manner. Outside of battle, however, she speaks very gently and with a great deal of compassion, especially when caring for former members of The Dolls, whom she refers to as her "sisters". Cammy feels a deep affinity towards cats and is often depicted feeding and caring for cats, perhaps because she's something of a stray cat herself. Cammy is also burdened by a deep feeling of guilt over having been an assassin for Shadaloo, but she has learned to overcome her feelings of guilt by looking towards the future.
Charlie Nash
"Until every sin and atrocity is punished by justice, my duty will not be complete!"
Charlie is a First Lieutentant in the United States Marine Corps, typically flying with his VTOL Harrier, and fights injustice alongside his best friend Guile. Charlie is first mentioned by name in the SFII storyline, where he is the deceased war buddy of Guile, one of the playable characters in the game. Charlie was canonically introduced in the SF Alpha series, which takes place between the events of the original SF and SFII. Charlie is a calm and confident fighter - sometimes to a fault - with a strong sense of justice. Charlie has a crime-fighting attitude akin to his friend Guile, though more out of righteousness rather than revenge; even so, he sometimes acts reckless. While normally he acts in a professional manner, he does let his emotions get the better of him at times. He greatly values his allies and is shown to have a very self-sacrificing nature.
Cody Travers
"You need to learn how to jus' say "screw it." Take a load off your shoulders."
Cody has been fighting his way to survive the harsh slums of Metro City since he was a kid. In the SF series, this has led to his incarceration. Cody is one of three characters (the others being Oro and Akuma) who voluntarily restrain themselves by giving himself a handicap on purpose. His reason for keeping his handcuffs on is to make his fights more challenging. During SF Alpha 3, Cody broke out of prison after a riot ensued. During his travels, he met up with his friend, Guy, once more. Guy wanted to reform Cody and get him back on the good path, but Cody said that he was no hero and basically lived for fighting. The two then had their own battle but after they calmed down, Guy accepted that his friend had to live his own life. When Guy asked if Cody would stay in Metro City, he replied that he still had traveling to do and the pair separated. Guy bid him farewell, realizing that deep down inside, Cody is still a good person. In Super SFIV, after spending all those years in jail, he seems to have developed a martyr complex about his predicament, musing that everyone has gone on to live the high life except him. Apparently bored and wanting to take a break, Cody breaks out of prison. Cody's main motivation seems to be finding a way to alleviate his boredom by participating in S.I.N's tournament. After defeating S.I.N., Guy appears again, asking Cody if he's fighting for what's right and if there's still a bit of good left in him. Cody says that he only did it because S.I.N. was in his way, and states he'll be returning to his prison cell, because that's where he belongs. Cody claims that he was never a real hero and that he only lives for the thrill of fighting. However, Cody has lived always in the "good path." His reasoning for fighting is very similar to Ryu's as they both seek battle for the sake of battle. Although Cody was self-trained to be a hero in the streets of Metro City, he has fallen back from that ideal due to self-hate, unlike Ryu.
Crimson Viper
"Try getting a real job!"
Crimson Viper, also known as Maya, is an American fighter employed by S.I.N., and presumed head of the "Battle Suit" Project. In reality, Crimson Viper is a secret agent under the employ of a U.S. government agency, presumably the CIA. She enters and participates in the S.I.N.'s tournament under the guise of acquiring data for the Battle Suit for S.I.N., though her true motives are to acquire data from the BLECE Project, in addition to eliminating "Number 15". Crimson Viper's working personality is superior and condescending, as seen in her interactions with Chun-Li, Cammy and Hakan. However, she is also genuinely interested in the inner workings and problems of the other fighters, as shown in her various win-quotes. She has a young daughter named Lauren who she cares for greatly. Crimson Viper is often seen talking to Lauren on her cell phone after her matches.
Dan Hibiki
"I hope you're ready for a beating!"
Dan is consistently portrayed as an arrogant, overconfident, awesome, yet utterly feeble character in many of the games he is featured in. He is widely considered to be the comic relief of the series because of his over-the-top poses, battle cries, and overall weak moveset: in essence, he is a joke character. Dan is unemployed, despite being able to pay for an infomercial that airs at 3am, which should actually cost more than a phone bill, thus saying Dan does not set priority on his own account. According to Dan-specific win quotes in SFIV and SSFIV, most characters find Dan "entertaining", while others "can't stand him" or believe he is "all talk". Abel in particular even thanks him for the laughs. Dan's father, Go Hibiki, was a rival of Sagat. Go gouged out Sagat's eye and Sagat killed him in retaliation. Dan vowed revenge and seeked Gouken, Ryu and Ken's master to train with him. Gouken sensed Dan's vengeful heart and expelled him from his Dojo. Dan became angry and developed his own fighting style, the Saikyō-ryū, "The Strongest Style". After defeating Sagat to try and regain his honor (completely oblivious to the fact that Sagat actually threw the match), Dan opened a school he called "Saikyo Ultimate Style Dojo". Since then, he's wandered the globe to recruit students interested in the Saikyo Style. Dan's current "student" is Sakura, and he is also a good friend to Blanka. With his incomplete training, Dan's special attacks are quite strange and not as damaging as they should be, even though they're based on the same powerful moves as Ken and Ryu. His strongest attacks involve repeated small strikes against his enemy, using them as a way to boost his self-confidence. No one is quite sure why Dan is so fond of repetitive attacks, not even Dan himself.
Dee Jay
"Your problem is you've got no rhythm."
Dee Jay is generally a kind-spirited, cheerful, happy-go-lucky man who loves fighting, dancing and composing music rhythms. His conduct is very clear in most of his in-game poses, artworks and pictures where he is always seen sporting a huge smile and a thumbs-up hand gesture. Dee Jay tends to always see the positive side of everything in life, constantly displaying a highly happy mood and rarely getting upset, angry or sad, even under the ugliest circumstances. Known as "The Southern Comet", Dee Jay is a cheerful kickboxer who fights to musical rhythm. Eventually, he becomes a music star, though he still has time to enter the second World Warrior tournament to find some new rhythm for his songs.
Dhalsim
"The future is decided by what you do now, not what is in your past. What do you see in your future?"
Dhalsim is a Sagittarius. In the story, he hails from Kerala, India. Dhalsim is famous throughout the SF series for his unique personality...as well as his stretchy, lanky body and fire attacks. Dhalsim has a wife, Sally, and a son named Datta. Dhalsim shares some character similarities towards Ryu, as he is equally stoic, serious, self-disciplined, humble and very stern when needed. Being a pacifist, he will never hurt more than necessary or kill an adversary, even the most evil ones such as M. Bison. His pacifist beliefs also allow him to be a greatly loving father and husband towards his family, just like Guile. Being an extremely altruistic man, Dhalsim fights mostly for the poor and oppressed, as he constantly tries his best to raise money for his poverty-stricken people (in fact, the skulls he wears around his neck are those of village children that died during a plague...so that he can always remember why he fights). In contrast with Ryu's youngster (but still serious and self-focused) type, Dhalsim has a more "mature" and less "enthusiastic" nature, as he regularly relies on his traditional yoga meditation rites to expand his spirituality and keep his inner neutrality off any emotional involvement that may prejudice his discipline. Dhalsim always remains calm and serene. When he fights, he is always in a constant state of meditation so he can focus on the opponent. He rarely speaks to his opponents, and when he does, his words are riddles that leave the foe confused about his own being.
Dudley
"I don't need to take a life to claim victory."
Dudley was born into a wealthy English family. His father was a former athlete turned successful businessman. From the time he was a little boy, he wanted to be a fighter, but his family told him he was too small to compete. Later, his father lost his business and the family fortune. The losses prompted Dudley to take up professional boxing to earn back lost assets. Dudley then grew into a formidable boxer both in body and skill and was successful in bringing his family back to affluence. Despite everything that has happened, Dudley still boxes, seeking perfection both in and out of the ring, and always behaving as an impeccable gentleman. While Ryu is often compared to the archetype of a wandering ronin (a samurai with no master), Dudley is certainly representative of a chivalrous knight. Dudley's personality was quite different during the SFIII series, in which he was far more snobbish and haughty, though this was toned down by Third Strike, in which he is more dignified and respectful to his opponents. In Super SFIV, he lacks this condescending attitude; he is polite, gentle, restrained, and always behaves as an impeccable gentleman and has immense respect for all his opponents. However, he particularly dislikes truly dirty fighting and rude people, both of which are unacceptable personality traits of Dudley's rival and fellow boxer, Balrog. Despite this, he won't even insult him, Bison, Juri, or Seth...fitting in perfectly with the gentleman's gentleman archetype. It is a testament to Dudley's chivalrous and polite nature that, while Balrog is the very personification of everything he hates in life, the most insulting thing that Dudley has ever said to him is that he thought he would not be "much of a boxer" in his rival battle win quote, as well as "You're an embarrassment to boxing!" if he wins a round with a Super Combo finish.
Eagle
"I'm very glad. Ha ha ha!"
Eagle was born in the UK. A cold-blooded individual, Eagle is a bouncer who was employed as a newly-rich noble family's bodyguard during the first World Warrior tournament. He was hired to defeat Sagat, but was unsuccessful and returned to the bar scene, eventually becoming a living legend. In SF Alpha 3, Eagle seeks to perfect the beauty of his fighting style and to find a perfect duel to match it. His pomp, braces (suspenders), and formal dress make Eagle some sort of mixed counter-culture counterpart to Birdie, a punk. Like Dudley, Eagle in SFA3 shares the same characteristics of being a gentleman and tries to uphold chivalrous values. He strongly dislikes ungentlemanly behavior and unrefined fellows.
Edmond Honda
"Can't you do better than that?"
In his backstory, E. Honda is mentioned to have began his training as a child, singularly focused on becoming the greatest sumo wrestler of all time. He would eventually achieve the highly-revered titled of "Ōzeki" (in the English localization, he was incorrectly stated as having achieved the title, Yokozuna). Honda became upset that the rest of the world did not view sumo wrestling with the reverence of the Japanese. He entered into the second World Warrior tournament intent on showing everyone that sumo wrestlers rank among the greatest fighters in the world. He also yearns to improve and prove his own strength, as well as earn the title of Yokuzuna. His involvement with the second tournament is also part of him investigating the Shadaloo organization in response to sumo wrestlers taking drugs, and learning of their involvement after capturing some of the dealers. His face painting and dual nationality name assisted him to an extent with remaining covert during this. After the tournament and the fall of Shadaloo, Honda returned to Japan where he continued engaging in sumo wrestling and continuing to run his bath house and training his disciples. His participation in Super SFIV shows that his his goals have not changed much for he still wants to prove the strength of sumo to the world.
Elena
"Feel the rhythm of the earth and the whispers of the wind."
Elena is a princess of an East African nation that has a cultural tradition of fighting. Her fighting style is Capoeira which is of West African and Brazilian origin. The style utilizes her strong, long legs to execute dance-like moves and fancy legwork. Her father, chief of the region, is a witch doctor who also qualified in France for a doctorate degree in medicine. Elena's views of fighting and martial arts differ from most due to her light hearted personality allowing her to befriend some people and annoy others. She wants to travel around the world, meeting new friends along the way. She studied as an exchange student in Japan, where she met her best friend Narumi. She later continued those studies in France. Elena is a young girl with a very strong, pure spirit and a cheerful teenage-like personality (similarly to Sakura), though in a more tomboyish style. She is also shown to be very sweet-hearted and devoid of any malevolence, yet smart, sociable and culture-adaptative, as she constantly refers to her accent as "something she got from her travels around the world" - these travels are on purpose of not only fighting new adversaries, but also knowing other countries and learning more about their respective peoples, traditions and cultures.
El Fuerte
"It's Super Dynamic Cooking Time!"
El Fuerte is a Mexican luchador who spends his time perfecting his lucha libre skills and honing his cooking abilities. His indomitable spirit is a match for even the legendary Zangief. He now travels the world in an effort to assemble the greatest recipes on the planet. His name is Spanish for "The Strong One." He joins the tournament to fight the other champions and discover what they eat and also test his lucha libre skills. Along the way, he meets Zangief who is his rival and fights to see if "a hurricane is stronger than a cyclone." El Fuerte's ending finds him asking what recipe is suitable for a great hero.
Fei Long
"Float like a moth, sting like a hornet."
Fei Long is Capcom's tribute to the Jeet Kune Do movie legend Bruce Lee, the basis for his design. Not only do the two look alike and come from the same city, Fei Long also lets out similar battle cries to Lee, and is just as furious and fast. A youthful and talented man from Hong Kong, Fei Long began training in Kung Fu from the age of six, eventually developing his own form, and fought on the streets to sharpen his skills until he caught the eye of a movie director, who got him into the movie business. Fei Long is very serious most of the time. He is also shown to be calm at times. The best example of this is in his rival fight against Abel, where he is shown to be in a normal mood at first but all of a sudden loses his temper just as the Frenchman asks him for a fight 2 times. There are also times when Fei Long is shown to be a little cocky. This can be seen by many of his personal actions and also win quotes against certain characters. He is full of fighting spirit as shown in a lot of his win quotes and takes great pride in his fighting style which he seeks to honor it in all ways possible. He also despises all that is evil and dislikes indifference, those lacking emotion, and faithless people. He likes self-assertiveness. Fei Long also enjoys a good match; although he is a famous martial arts movie's actor, he still takes his time to appear at underground fighting areas to find a worthy opponent to spar with.
Gen
"You are a big fool."
Gen is a Chinese martial arts master and former assassin (most likely an assassin for the Chinese government) who uses legendary fighting techniques. Stated to be in his 70s by the time of Super SFIV, Gen is a legend in the Chinese underworld. However, he has been diagnosed with a fatal illness believed to be leukemia, and is seeking to die as he has lived: fighting. He has taught several characters in the SF series how to fight, including Chun-Li, Yun, and Yang. The fact that all these characters possess vastly different fighting styles speaks to the breadth of his mastery. He is currently the only character in the series who can switch between fighting styles (he has 2 of them) during a match, and one of the few characters in fighting games with multiple movesets. Gen is a silent, precise and wise man who takes his assassinations very seriously and prefers to fight formidable foes, such as Akuma and Ryu. He also has the tendency to muse over death, likely due in part to his condition. He is also shown to be very responsible, deciding to look over and protect Chun-Li in part because he was friends with her father...as well as taking on the responsibility of raising his friend Lee's nephews, Yang and Yun. In the UDON comic adaptation, he goes out of his way to keep the twins from learning about his past in order to protect them.
Gill
"Let me be the blesser of all souls!"
Gill is the main boss of SFIII. He is presented as a cult leader who would become a benevolent monarch over his worthy subjects. However, his cult uses kidnapping, coercion, DNA manipulation, brainwashing, and extreme force in order to select their chosen people, and they have been behind a majority of the world's events and criminal organizations to attain their ends. Gill's appearance is characterized by his half red and half blue muscular body and flowing blond hair. He bears a distinct and intentional resemblance to a Greek God.
Gouken
"Concentrate not on destroying your foe, but on attaining your own victory."
Gouken is Ryu's adoptive father, Ryu and Ken's martial arts master, and Dan's former master as well as Akuma's older brother. Gouken plays an integral role in the series' backstory. Gouken was believed to have met an untimely end when he was "murdered" by his power-hungry brother Akuma, although he makes a mysterious return in SFIV. Gouken does not brag about his abilities, and gives insightful advice to opponents; for example, he tells Dan that anger will not help him (fearing it would lead him to a dark place), and he informs Dee Jay that if he is silent, he would be surprised of what he learns. He detests Akuma for killing his master, Goutetsu.
Guile
"I know my own moves better than anyone else. Both my strengths and weaknesses."
Although his role in the SF story was at first minimal, Guile is considered the third leading and best male character in the series, after Ryu and Ken, largely due to his effectiveness as a character and his popularity. Guile is quite tough, both physically and mentally. He has survived a lot, and is still standing, as well as still fighting. A stoic man at heart, Guile's calm and emotionless exterior actually hides the rage he has after Charlie's death. Although loyal to the military and the United States, Guile is extremely persistent. He is so driven to find out who betrayed him in the jungles of Thailand, and to try and get at M. Bison, that he would even put that over his duties. Despite this, he is a truly loving husband and father to his family.
Guy
"There's something you should get to know better. Your limits."
Guy is an American red-clad ninpō master of Japanese descent who has been taught the special Bushin form of ninjutsu. A frown is constantly seen on his face; he very rarely laughs or smiles. Guy is calm and reserved, with a sharp mind and a noble spirit. He is a stoic warrior who carries out his duty as a ninja with an almost professional air of detachment. His grim face rarely shows any emotion, with the most noticeable one being occasional shock, such as when he saw the fate that befell Cody. He dislikes interfering in the lives of others, and believes everything should be left as is, only fighting when he deems it necessary. He is fiercely protective of his allies, as shown by his interactions with Rose, urging her not to sacrifice herself to defeat Bison, and rescuing Maki from M. Bison in her ending, despite her attempts to defeat Guy to become the 40th Bushin grandmaster. Though he has a calm and sharp mind, Guy is noble from within the fighting spirit and vows to fight evil using the strength and power of the Bushin style martial arts.
Hakan
"Looks like it's time to oil up!"
Hakan is the president of the world's leading edible oil manufacturer and a leader in Turkey's national sport of Yağlı güreş. He enters the S.I.N. tournament to showcase his skills, while also travelling the world in search of inspiration for a new oil recipe (after beating up and interrogating a trespassing thug whom he accuses of being an industrial spy). During the tournament, Hakan encounters E. Honda, who is revealed to be an old friend. Their meeting gets competitive when each claims that theirs is the best fighting style in the world, and a match ensues. Honda loses and acknowledges that it was a good fight, but warns Hakan not to expect him to lose next time as he leaves. Hakan then muses that Japan has a number of different oils, and tells his family that they are heading to Japan to expand their business. He cares greatly for his wife and daughters and dislikes not only industrial espionage and S.I.N. for building weapons, but also when others claim that their fighting style is superior to his.
Hugo
"I won, Poison! You're treating me to Chinese food for lunch tomorrow! All you can eat!"
Filled with ambition, the 8' tall Hugo wanted nothing more in life than to be a professional wrestler. Though he and his kin had wrestled many times before in the carnival, the spectacle of American wrestling was so much more alluring. The fame, the fortune, the excitement...Hugo wanted to experience it all, and at any price. Eventually deciding that the criminal lifestyle was not for him, Hugo entered the third World Warrior tournament, accompanied by his friend former Mad Gear member, Poison. His goal through this action was to find a suitable tag team partner. Hugo and Poison decided to start their own wrestling promotion in SFIII, the Huge/Hyu Wrestling Army (HWA). Their main objective is to take over all of pro wrestling. Hugo is a very arrogent man because of his size, believing no one can come close to his strength. He gives very little reguard to rules or authority, stepping on anyone in his way...although Poison seems to be an exception to this rule. Hugo is often described as "slow" in terms of his intelligence, something that bothers him greatly.
