New theme - Which Megami Tensei game would you be in?

Dec 31, 2009 12:32

Hey guys! Happy New Year (soon)! I'm posting this a day early because I'm going to be out of commission until next week... The Pokemon partner theme ends on January 1, 2010, so you have a day (or two, we're not THAT mean!) left to get it in!

Starting now and ending February 1, 2010 is Which Megami Tensei game would you be in? It was one of the themes with the most votes in a previous poll. I'm not an expert on all the Megami Tensei games, and there are a lot more to this franchise than I ever expected, so... If anyone sees any mistakes or want to suggest something, please feel free to tell me!

Also, even if you're not familiar with the games, you can still base applications off of the images from the games :) (There are quite a few I haven't played yet, so you're not alone!) You can also take a look at the Megami Tensei wiki!

For the stamp options, I grouped some of the games together (i.e. sequels) and left some of the games separate, depending on their popularity (or lack thereof). I also left some of games out because it's not well-known outside of Japan, and there's not much on the wiki to go off of :| I also tried to add a small summary of each game, but my sources are lacking for some of the older games, so if you know more than what I've written, hollaaaaa

For the subject line, put something about Megami Tensei or demons so we can differentiate!

Application:

Name:
Age:

So tell us, why are you summoning demons? Because you're curious? Because you're trying to save the world? Because you stumbled upon something and are kind of stuck with this demon-summoning power, no matter how much you don't want it?
Any game you don't want?

For voters: Stamp options are located http://community.livejournal.com/vgamesmirror/54971.html>here!

Devil Summoner (Raidou's universe)
Features devil summoner Raidou who is also a detective in an alternate time line in 1920s Tokyo. Style of the characters and settings are a bit vintage. It also differs than the other MegaTen games in its real-time battle system.

Digital Devil Saga: Avatar Tuner
Spin-off of the Megami Tensei series. Opposed to talking to or recruiting demons as with the other MegaTen games, you devour them! You encountered this egg that then released an explosion of light, and once that explosion subdued, you find yourself and everyone else around you as demons! And now you have to go around to other tribes and devour them to figure out why all this is happening and how to go to Nirvana~ Style is futuristic.

Digital Devil Story: Megami Tensei
The one that started it all! "Megami Tensei" refers to the protagonist and her true identity as the reincarnation of the goddess Izanami. Style of settings and characters are very classic.

Last Bible
Takes place in a more medieval setting than the other Megami Tensei games. Overall feeling of the games is lighter, as demons are referred to as monsters instead.

Persona 2
Includes Persona 2: Innocent Sin, followed by Persona 2: Eternal Punishment to create one overarching story. There's a rumor that says if you dial your own cell phone number, you can summon JOKER and have his or her wish granted. In Innocent Sin, JOKER is angered at the protagonist and his friends because they supposedly did something horrible to him in the past (and don't remember) and swears revenge. In Eternal Punishment, JOKER is the center of a series of murders.

Persona 3
You are a part of group named SEES, in which every member is aware of the Dark Hour (a mysterious, hidden hour that takes place between midnight and 1am), and everyone travels up the tower Tartarus to explore and train to battle Greater Shadows that appear every full moon. Battle system is turn-based, setting is modern, and story is dark.

Persona 4
You have moved to the countryside, to hear about a recent string of murders. With the help of your friends, the television, and the Midnight Channel, you are out to rescue those who appear on the Midnight Channel and unravel the answers to catch the murderer. Character styles and music are modern and retro.

Shin Megami Tensei
Spin-off to the Megami Tensei series, you're a guy living in Tokyo who checked your e-mail to hear about this person named STEVEN, who sends out a demon-summoning program to all who wants it. You download it, then go run an errand for your mother, and then you notice that demons are roaming the streets! Then you go recruit demons to fight worse demons.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children
Released under three different versions, Devil Children is much less violent and lighter in air compared to the other MegaTen games, since it was most likely targeted toward children. (Similar series: Shin Megami Tensei: DemiKids)

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner
Takes place in modern-day Tokyo as opposed to the post-apocalyptic world like many of the games prior. You're a college guy who gets attacked (with your girlfriend) by demons, and then some cool demon-hunter comes to save you! But then that demon-hunter dies, and so do you, but somehow you then possess the body of that dead demon hunter, and now you're going to go save your girlfriend! Yay!

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor (Japanese title: Megami Ibunroku Devil Survivor)
Tokyo's locked down by the Japanese military, and demons are roaming all over the capital! Also, the capital will be destroyed completely in seven days. To survive, you have to make contracts with demons and survive! Style is modern and incorporates references to pop culture in Tokyo.

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona (original title: Megami Ibunroku Persona)
Spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series. Starts out with you and your friends playing the game "Persona" (similar to Bloody Mary), and then you all lose consciousness and obtain the ability to summon reflections of their personalities called Persona! Then when you wake up, you find out that demons are roaming the streets, oh no.

Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey
A black hole appeared near the South Pole, and the United Nations sent a group named Schwarzwelt down to investigate. Of course, what else would be there except for demons? Style is military-esque, mature.

Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, with demons roaming all over the place, on the brink of reaching a rebirth called the "Conception." Opposed to bashing demons in and recruiting them, in Nocturne, you have to speak and negotiate with demons before they join you! For example, Archangels and Angels will ask philosophical questions, while Incubi and Succubi can be bribed with money.

Also in February, we'll have open themes :)

And! Since the Pokemon partner theme was such a hit, is anyone interested in doing the other generations? If this is a go, we'll do each generation separately. Since some might not want to flat-out say "No, I'm not interested" to this idea, we'll just have one option for the poll, and we'll decide based on the amount of votes this will get.

Poll

Long post is long! Anyway, have fun!
