Hi my name is Emily. I am 20 years-old and 4,11. I was born 5 months premature and weighed the same as a pound of butter. I was on heavy oxygen for the first year of my life. The oxygen weakened my retinas and damaged them thus causing my visual impairment. The name of my eye disease is Retinopathy Of Prematurity (ROP ( Read more... )

those cctv things are really neat. i'm an ophthalmic tech and the low-vision center we work with brought some in to show them to me.

if i can ask, how did you get yours? did you have to buy it or did some group get it for you? i just ask because out here, they run about two thousand dollars, i think, and usually, insurance doesn't cover it. i think that's extremely unfair!

what prescription do you wear? it's always helpful to me to be able to know what people like yourself CAN see, because, as you know, not everyone who is "blind" is completely so.

nice to meet you. and congratulations on your graduation!!!

I got my CCTV from a company that specializes in visual aids. I got mine funded through ADP so it didn't cost much. Yeah, I love my CCTV I forget how I got by without it I use it for everything from reading books to reading my mail.

You were asking about my prescription for my eye glasses? Sorry I don't know. All I know is it is an extremely strong prescription.

Thanks for the congrats.

Take Care.

So that would be - umm, don't tell me! - a pound, right?

*chuckle* Welcome to the community.

I have Retintis Pigmentosa only my vision is deterating very slowly. I can see color, depth perception and light. I'm shooting for my first guide dog either later this summer or next summer. Glad you came on the community I'm Jess the owner and if you need anything hollar. Before I go I've heard of retinopathy, my mother's 2nd cousin (cousin is older then her) has retinopathy, never knew that retinapathy and RP were cousins until last year.

Hi, I also have ROP, although I can see a lot less than you and I have been born 2 month early and was on oxygen only for a few days, not a year, but it was still enough to damage my site. I really can only see light, not even people or objects..well I guess I can see cars at nightime because they got lights on, but that's about it. Hope you enjoy this comunity.
