Nelle sighed and grabbed another handful of potato crisps, her greasy fingers crushing a few of the smaller crisps into crumbs. She moved her hand toward her open mouth and shoved the entire handful inside in one smooth, seemingly well-practiced motion. The ( Read more... )

Man, I didn't even know the new topic had posted and you're already done writing :)

Lol you know me! This one actually worked out well because I had the idea but couldn't figure out how to actually execute it, and as soon as I saw the prompt I knew what to do. :) Sometimes I think Gary is magic.

Oh wow! I agree. Some of Gary’s prompts have most uncanny timing.

I know he had said something one time about how the prompts he uses are ones he came up with months ago, but it's funny how they seem to line up to what I'm thinking sometimes. :)

Sounds like maybe she is in a coma or something like it? I really enjoyed where you went with this; great work!

(Just FYI, in the fourth paragraph it has Elle instead of Nelle.)

Thank you! :) And yep, she's in a VR coma, to be specific - the way I'm imagining it, she's in a bed in real life, being kept alive with a feeding tube or similar, while she's stuck in a VR world that she can't distinguish from her real life.

Also thanks for catching that typo! Would you believe that I read through these like five times before I post them and I still miss something like that?

You’re welcome! I find it’s really easy to miss something like that, honestly.

Wow, ok. I'm glad I read your comment. In a VR coma...hmmm.. I bet these will happen eventually. I read it, thinking of...well, it's like we can sometimes go into online/on phone comas, or at least my kids seem to. So that they don't seem to hear me (or others) in the same room.

You really dealt well with the idea that I thought of using, that, in a negative way, I do think I "use" food at times as a distraction from stress/unhappy feelings.

You portrayed that so well. Great job!

I found the not eating while really focused on something really relatable. Something that's quite common for autistic people or those with ADHD.

The hearing voices but not completely, it all felt quite creepy to me, but I think if after 4 years of never leaving my house, I'd probably fall into a similar kind of hole (whether a VR coma or some other issue). Two years of our pandemic and me barely leaving the house or socializing has been hard enough.

Oh man, when I was in school I would get so focused on a project that I'd go a whole day without eating without even realizing it until I nearly feel out of my chair from lack of energy.

I could definitely see myself easily falling into a hole like this, as well, especially if you have a good reason to not want to leave your house much.
