Hey, I actually just added you! I've actually seen POTO 6 times...was lucky enough to see the original Canadian Cast with Colm Wilkinson and Rebecca Caine...they were wonderful. And yes, it is coming back to Toronot (finally) as part of Mirvish's 2006-2007 season. Individual show tickets aren't on sale yet ... you can only buy a package to see all 7 shows, but they should be on sale closer to the date. Do you like Les Mis at all?

This is just a private message regarding your foot... I'm kind of surprised that no radiologists will treat this as an important enough issue to come in. DVTs can be life-threatening, if the clot begins releasing pieces into the bloodstream, to end up in other parts of your body. Think heart attack, stroke, et cetera.

Not to mention... your limbs can only go so long without decent circulation.

Hi, thanks for the message. Why didn't you respond in the *ask a nurse* community? I know they are serious...but Canada's healthcare system (especially my city) is really taxed.

I haven't had a chance to update (and didn't figure I should bother in that community) but I actually was able to get both a venous and an arterial dopplar done today (after much fighting) and they were both negative for clots (thankfully). However, the doctors think I may have Phlegmasia, so they turfed me for the weekend and I'm seeing my family doc on Monday to see about setting up an appointment with a vascular specialist/surgeon.

I don't know if you have any credentials but if you know anything to watch out for, I'd really appreciate it. The pain in my leg is worse tonight since I showered (I hadn't showered since Wednesday since that is what brought on the pain but had to today after those scans) and it's pretty scary.

Phlegmasia cerulea dolens is an unusually intense form of DVT that happens in the upper leg. See here.

I'm an LPN, with experience in a wide range of fields, including the ER, ICU and Army.

The reason I didn't reply with this there is that they are somewhat reticient to question the professionalism and competence of another medical professional. I can understand their desire to keep away from politics and finger-pointing - it makes sense - but all of us are people, prone to the same weaknesses as everyone else. Sometimes someone just isn't as aggressive as they could be in diagnosing and treating a condition.

If you do have PCD, then they can treat it by anticoagulant therapy. Heparin, Coumadin, or something else. If it's bad enough, they can use a clotbuster like TPA... but that makes you a hemophiliac for a few days and costs quite a bit. Or in extreme cases, there's surgery, if it begins to threaten the health of a limb. But there are risks involved in such a surgery... you could bump and shatter a clot while you're trying to ( ... )

Thank you, I really appreciate your information and I understand why you wouldn't want to post it in the community - I am very grateful to you for taking the time to come to my journal and provide me with some info ( ... )
