People who travel a lot in their jobs end up with enough points sometimes to take their families on a nice vacation -- a decent perk.
My doctor told me that his wife charges everything they need -- especially groceries -- on the card and gets enough points to pay for the family's vacation airfare.
I've saved up about 35,000 on American Express, and the rest from flying back East, which gives me 6,000 points per trip. It's worth it; just not as good as it used to be. Also, there are blackout dates, so it's generally impossible to get a free ticket during any holiday.
