I am grateful...

Kids in my neighborhood set up a lemonade stand today on the sidewalk under an old oak tree.

Twenty-five cents per glass.

In this frantic and insane and pathetic world, I still live in a 1955 Mayberry, USA community.

It will not always be like this, but today was a good day.

That is a good day.I'm concerned about what sort of world we are leaving to young people.
We need a stable, sustainable, peaceful world for everyone, everywhere.

I agree. I wish kids today had the basic and peaceful lifestyle that I had:

1. Romping through acres of forest.

2. Finding a turtle friend at the creek.

3. Thrilled over a new bicycle (because I'd never heard the word "computer").

4. Hanging out with cousins all the livelong day in the summer, sometimes shelling butterbeans under the pecan grove.

5. No pressure regarding designer labels.

6. Keds and P.F. Flyers.

7. Transistor radios with pink leather covers.

8. Meals at home.

9. "Hey, hey. We're the Monkees."

10. Hopes of a sweet future.

I'm not sure if they were contributing to Alex's fund. They're relatively wealthy kids, and they don't need money, so it wouldn't surprise me if they were raising money.

Welcome back. I missed you.
