Well, I didn't get the job. I'm kind of relieved, in a way. I almost wasn't sure I could handle it. So anyway, I applied to another school today. I'm just going to keep applying until I find something. In the meantime, I might have to do something like get a job at the mall ( Read more... )

I make a LOT of jokes about Sarah Palin. Ask anyone.

But deep down I can't look at her without thinking about her quasi-infamous quote about the Alaskan oil pipeline: "I think God's will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gasline built."

And maybe I'm not seeing all sides here, but I personally can't read that line as anything other than a scared, frantic woman who's being fed substantial amounts of money (in this case by oil lobbyists etc) and wants to believe so strongly that what she's doing isn't wrong that she abdicates responsibility entirely, calling it the "will of God."

And I think that's a terrifying proposition.

(especially 'cause McCain has the life-expectancy of a mayfly. Electing that man is asking for that woman to run the country.)

Possibly. Me, I think she's sincere in believing that many of the projects she undertakes are the will of God. I don't think it's a question of abdicating responsibility. And that's even scarier, imo ( ... )

I see her becoming governor like so many of those CSCA moms getting in charge that end up working for the school. They're devout and they have to get in the way and control things, if you're her equal she'll be sweet to you about it but still do things her way, if you're not she'll talk down to you and make sure you know she's in control.

Mrs. Caperna comes to mind in particular (she was also a lawyer, prior to her turn to teaching).

I didn't know Phil's mom. Creepy. So far I haven't really noticed a control complex in Palin, but it wouldn't surprise me. A need to set the world "straight" (no pun intended) is a pretty common characteristic.
