Socks, March 1995 - February 11, 2009

Socks took a turn for the worse tonight. He began convulsing and started to lose control of his bowels. He looked like he was in so much pain. Saying goodbye to him was heartbreaking. I held his little paw through the gate of the pet carrier. It was horrible ( Read more... )

I like that, about "Your saddest day with your cat was also your kindest." Death is still one of those things that freaks me out because it's so final; it bothers me a bit that we had to make that decision for Socks, even though he was incapable of making it himself.

Life is just so precious. But a life of pain and suffering is no life at all, especially when it's only prolonging a slow death.

He was a good boy. It's funny that a cat can make me want to believe in God, but the rest of humanity can't.

Maybe he is with Mertz now. I'm sure he was a good boy, too.

hugs and lots of love. I know you'll always miss Socks, but remember all the years of fun and furry times, and take comfort in the fact that you did something good for him when he could no longer help himself.
