It's storming in Houston in the way it never seems to anywhere that isn't tropical, or at least semi-tropical, and the whole sky keeps splitting open like a bursting balloon, the water pouring heavily through air so wet and warm that it feels ripe. I miss that ourouborous-way about Los Angeles as well.... Austin has just always been basically what Austin is, and everything else is added on top of that without the self-cannibalizing. There's a way that a place impacts what one can do there...

LA is definitely a place where you can eat your own past and rise again, but Austin?

You can only improve what you've got here, not scrap everything and start over. That's good and healthy in some ways, but not as delicious or dramatic.
