it's hard for me to shed any tears for Jerry Falwell. He had been a thorn in my side for years, and his being from Virginia only made things worse. We had not one, but TWO crazy evangelists in our Commonwealth ( let's not forget Pat Robertson.) Whatever did we do to deserve them ( Read more... )

I've mowed lawns....I've been a babysitter....I've watched people's houses for them while they were on vacation....I've been a caddy....so I think to focus on 35-odd years of my hosting an evangelical show is unfair..."

Was it Falwell or Jimmy Swaggert who got caught with a hooker in the late 80's? I remember the scandal with the Jim and Tammy Baker as well. All of these televangelists seemed to fall at once. My late grandmother watched TBN all of the time these guys were household names, at least in her house.
One thing is for sure-these crazy public preachers made for some good comedy sketches.

That was Jimmy Swaggert. Don't know if Falwell has anything to equal that in his closet, but one never knows.

though it *is* interesting to read obituaries for people like him - wherein you can almost see the writer straining to find something nice to say!

Indeed. It's really hard to find anything positive to say about the man.
