North gets up slowly, carefully, rolls his shoulders, straightens his back. That fall was rather rough on him, but nothing seems broken, at most he's just a little sore, maybe bruised too. For now he can't exactly tell. The pain doesn’t faze him, yes, there are some physical limitations that come with it, but it’s hardly anywhere near his limits. And it doesn't matter, because his attention is focused immediately on his surroundings-- pain seemingly forgotten to deal with the situation at hand.

There was one original AI that Dr Leonard Church received, that was the Alpha (which, as it was eventually revealed, was actually a copy of the mind of the Director). The Freelancers were told that Alpha was copied, but in reality, it was tortured until it fragmented itself in an attempt to protect itself. And those AIs, the fragments of Alpha representing its traits, were the ones given to the Freelancers.

5) Ultimately, the AI fragments and the treatment of the Alpha was what got the project shut down and the Director imprisoned.
