I'll make a layout soon and post it, but I won't have a header image. I would like that to be voted on. So it's a community effort. Maybe we can vote on a group of images, and then people can make layouts using those images ( ... )

Here are my arguments on betas:

An official beta list would be a list of betas that are approved by the community and could be contacted by anyone that lacked a beta to edit their stories.

And beta's don't have to change your writitng, they can simply check for typos and grammatical errors--They do as much or as little as you want them to.

Making beta'ing mandatory is helpful to a community's overall fic quality, because at the very least, there are no careless errors.

Makes sense, but I have had beta's who have done what I fear, as long as they didn't I might be okay with it. But just ok. And I am all for the fic quality, but mostly what is posted here now, is a little better, in my opinion, then on other sites.

The good thing about beta's picked out a community, is you can talk to them about what kind of beta'ing you don't approve of, and if they do it anyway, you can just fire them and pick someone else off the list.

I'm glad that you've finally replied - it's a great relief to see that you guys are still around! I've been on far too many groups that have died a very slow death because the mods couldn't be reached ( ... )

We will make an effort in being much more availlable. My e-mail is now right here, and I'll put contacts in the community info, or something of the sort, so no one ever has trouble reaching us again.

Since people are voicing large amounts of concern over compulsory beta'ing, I'm thinking if someone who has good grammar and thouroughly edits their own work could just tell me, and be forever excused unless they suddenly start posting stories that have vast, terrifying amounts of errors, or something like that.

That would be great if you would do that, but the fact is, a lot of people still feel you are inactive in the community and thus not "accessible" in more ways than just email contact - which is why we're all calling for more moderators to be added!

I've answered my concerns over the compulsory betaing lower down.

I don't think anyone wants to force you into having another moderator and i for one understand perfectly what it means to have a real friend/family member as a co-mod, i also understand you feel a sense of property because after all it's your community, but in the end there's a lot of very active and involved people willing to help and seeing that you've moved to other fandoms, which i also understand perfectly, i think it'd be harder for you to take care of things. It's just that a third party may be tackling things easier and faster. Like do the dirty work. :) If any of you feel you may be loosing your vision of what the community should be and the original purpose of why it was created then feel free to share that vision with us. I'm not pushing, nor taking sides, i'm just thinking that anyone could use a helping hand. I've run communities before and i know that once you start getting into other fandoms and also adding the fact that you may also have your private life you don't always have the time or motivation to run a community ( ... )

Well, firstly - my main 'complaint' is the layout. It drives me nuts and it really needs to be fixed. Personally, I'd say the person to do that would be makeyoubelievex - she designs most of my layouts and they're all wonderful. She knows what she's doing ( ... )

I'll talk to Insanitys_reign about modifying the rules. I'm all for quality control, I'll just need to make sure she is, too.

And you could be exempt from the beta rule. :)

I think that TwistedKlown's suggestion of saying that stories with blatantly bad grammar, punctuation or formatting will be removed is a much better suggestion that forcing a beta onto people. Advising people to use one and saying that fics may be subject to removal if they are found to be of exceptionally poor quality or have complaints lodged about them.

I second that. People can list their 8 year old sister as beta if they really can't be arsed, and we might be flooded with the sort of crap you find on fandomination.net.

I'm glad you're still around :) I know what you mean about getting out of a fandom, I have quite a few myself that I feel like that about. But I don't think anyone here "lunges at the throats of anyone who insults Herr Manson" because *LOL* from the fics I've read, nobody actually LIKES Manson! What's wrong with a fandom where noone likes the frontman? *is amused*

But anyway. ;)

I was gonna say: my main concern, as I've said before, is the Members Only thing. In this fandom, lots of the celebs involved actually seem to be quite active online, and an even bigger problem is that many fans find RPS sick and don't understand it. I don't want such people to read my fic or see my art. I don't care so much about getting openly flamed because that already requires SOME amount of balls, I care about the knowledge that this site is open for anyone to randomly see and laugh about and point at, trace back to my private LJ, etc. It's not that I'm ashamed of this stuff because I know there's nothing wrong with it, but I don't want to be open to ( ... )

All points to do with the members only thing agreed on, JM! It's a concern I have and many others have and has been very eloquently expressed on our Discussion Thread!

And as for fandoms I agree with them all! I too would love to see Wednesday 13 allowed here as I've written a fic involving Wednesday, Pig and John - there is a HEAP of possibility for J5/Piggy D slash and there is also a heap of possibility for Piggy D/W13 slash... I'd love to see it added

Not to forget Manson/W13. *g*

I don't think that banners need to be the same as the layout, although it is nice. I don't see why we shouldn't have a selection of banners available to people. If we can perhaps come up with some sort of logo or image that we keep standard across any future layouts and designs, then that could become our "signature" and it would help keep some sort of similarity or theme through all of them, even if they look different.

rheakurokawa March 19 2007, 12:30:27 UTC
Yes, true. A selection would be perfect. Logos are tricky though. Mostly because it's hard to do them well. My opinion at least. :)

I know - A friend of mine fussed for AGES on hers! But it was just a suggestion to keep some continuity despite differences in styles.
