Swerve - Crunch - Bang - Slide - Ow

I never made it to work this morning, as a stupid fuck driving a flatbed truck made an illegal left turn from the right lane through me and my bike. My right leg is fucked up where his bumper hit me, but miraculously not broken. Some minor road rash through the jeans (still whole) and the heavy leather jacket (somewhat damaged, but still in one ( Read more... )

What they all said. (except I don't have that flexible a schedule, or an attourney.) Very much a sucky thing to happen, and heal up quickly and well, with plenty of company while you're convalescing. Arrrrg.

It wasn't a good day for driving to work, though my drive in sucked much less than yours in comparison.

No, they stopped, but not until after they had completed their illegal left turn through me. I do not know how long they stuck around; one of them asked if I was OK, I said 'no, I really am not', and he walked away. I have the guy's name and license # from the police report, at least.

Ack! I hope you're fine, no hidden anythings show up later.

And glad there was a witness, and the ambulance came quickly.

Thanks. My leg is getting more sore by the minute, but I think that is expected with this sort of injury. The emergency doc game me a perscription for darvocet, which I am giving some serious thought to having filled now.

I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse, and that there was another witness! *Hugs*. I gather you got the stupid fuck's license plate number, right?

Indeed. Unfortunately, the police report did not include the name or contact information for the witness, and I did not think to get contact info as I was being strapped down to the back board. I hope that does not bite me in the ass down the line.

Thanks,

A witness who saw the whole thing and is willing to say what happened (and that it was clearly the other guy's fault) is always a good thing, especially if they're willing to say so under oath a deposition or trial. On the other hand, it doesn't sound as though liability is going to be difficult to prove (never know, though).

I hope Paulo's recommendation for an attorney works out. If not, let me know. I have spent my entire career avoiding the practice of personal injury law but do know some people.

Glad to hear that things were not nearly as bad as they could have been. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
