So I'm watching Dirty Jobs, and Mike was helping build/refurb train locomotives. At the end of the show he got to drive one. To turn the thing on it has a "Main Engine Start" button. Awesome.

I have a Xen VM called "earth" I am provisioning, to run Google Earth Server. It's stuck, so I need to forcibly halt it, therefore:

So, let's set aside the Presidential election for a moment. Looks like the Alaskans are going to re-elect convicted felon "Uncle Ted" Stevens to the Senate. I hope he at least has the grace to step down, which everyone assumes was his plan all along. That's sticking to your guns though: "We'd rather have a felon than a Democrat".

I just finished Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks (the first Culture book) and it definitely lived up to the hype.  I have to make a comparison though, despite the fact that it was written before either of these works.  It felt to me like what you'd get if you tapped George R.R. Martin in Song of Ice and Fire mode to write an episode of Firefly.  I ( Read more... )
