I had mandatory Conflict Resolution Training today, in which a guy from the police (sadly not Sting) taught us how to defuse arguments and rowdy people at work (interesting but not exciting) and then if the worst comes to the worst and it gets physical, how to deflect attackers and break out of chokeholds etc. (interesting and exciting).

How much do those Apple phones cost then?

£269, plus a minimum 18-month contract with O2. You can't choose what tariff to go on, or use it with any other service provider. You can't install any third-party applications on it, otherwise it will completely cease to work. It doesn't have 3G access, which means you can only use the internet (its browser being one of its main features) if you're in a wi-fi area. It has all the same problems as iPods, in that you can only connect them to your computer using Apple software, which is a further limitation of your choice. You can't send photos directly from the phone, via MMS or e-mail, you have to upload them to your computer first. But that's OK, because the camera's only 2 megapixel anyway. Oh, and the battery life is pitifully small.

But still, it looks pretty.

I agree it does have all the problems you mention above. Though all other Apple products have those too, plus Ipods don't have a screen.
