So I am determined to give up the soda, especially my vice, Cherry Coke. I am weaning myself off of it since I get wicked caffeine headaches if I go too long without one. I need to replace the soda with something else, something besides water. Something tasty and cold ( Read more... )

Mineral water?

There's some great flavored stuff out there now - and no HFCS.

You could also get plain and out juice in it...

Why not water? I find that upping my water intake makes me feel ever so much better - it takes some getting used to, but is a good thing. For variation, I'll drink no sugar added juice - sometimes normal and sometimes diluted with extra water. Once you get used to it, cold, unsweetened herbal iced tea can be good too (celestial seasonings wild berry zinger, for example - just made strong and then cooled). For a(n expensive but nice) treat, Knudsens makes no sugar added spritzers in lots of different flavours. Oh, come to think of it, getting juice and mixing it with carbonated water can be ok too.

Hmmm - if you're looking to break the flavour-intensive soda habit, juice is probably your best starting place, actually (relative to my other suggestions :-D )

Why not make your own? Brew it strong add sugar or honey and LOTS of ice and lemon. Add fresh mint leaves or orange slices! And when and if you're ready to wean of caffeine you could move to herbal blends. I love Rose Mint which is a blend made using Red Zinger and mint teas. Also Mandarin spice. Soooooooo yummy and refreshing in the summer!

A friend who recently weaned herself and her whole family off of their pop dependence uses these:
http://www.amazon.com/SWEET-LEAF-STEVIA-LIQUID-ROOT/dp/B000GJP3NY/ref=sr_1_19/103-3336443-8116621?ie=UTF8&s=hpc&qid=1174488899&sr=8-19
You can get it in a lot of different flavors: grape, peppermint, lemon, chocolate, english toffee, root beer, cinnamon, and more. One drop favors a whole glass of water; it's calorie, fat, and carb free. It seems a little pricey, but because it takes so little each time it really stretches, plus it's often on sale.
I'm thinking about using them to wean myself off my juice addiction. I can lose 15 lbs in 1 month when I stop drinking juice. And I only drink the 100% juice. :(

Does it have to be a sweet taste? Because when I have to drink something cold and refreshing I'm all about plain water with lemon juice squeezed into it. It's actualy the only way I'll drink water that isn't highly processsed (as in I made a cup of tea).
