I will miss your channels and houses, the wonderful public library and bookshops, aimless walks around you with my camera in hand so I don´t look so aimless.
I feel a bit sad, leaving you in the season when you are most beautiful. -
B is for Belgium
Me and my friends arranged a perfect Benelux reunion in Brussels.
I tried to use Flemish on the allegedly bilingual locals and the result of my research is French:Flemish 2:2 after which I was so confused by the language mix that I just kept sprouting English on everyone.

Up North
I visited the two northernmost provinces of the Netherlands, Groningen and Friesland.
On the way there I just stared through window of the train at the countryside which is strewn with sheep, cows and beautiful, huge, black Frisian horses.

Sinterklaas arrives to the Netherlands on a boat from Spain and then he continues his journey on his white horse Amerigo. He has helpers called Zwarte Piets who give candies and gifts to kids who have been nice. There is some chimney climbing involved as well.

Edinburgh
November 4-6: It was beautiful, sunny and bloody chilly and once again I suspect that Great Britain and bad weather is all lies and slander.
The panorama is awesome. The town would need a 3D map with all its hills, slopes, valleys, bridges, crescents and in the evening I would need somebody to carry me around but it was worth it. I kept discovering ( Read more... ) -

It is funny how the distances are relative. When I told my colleagues I was going to a concert in Zwolle they were all surprised that I undertake such a long journey. Saint Martin´s Day!
Children were walking around with their lanterns, singing songs and getting sweets.
This Sunday Saint Nicholas comes on his boat from Spain to Amsterdam. He will be welcomed by the major and then he will ride his white horse through the streets, while his helpers will throw candy to kids.

My German class is something between Leo Rosten's Hyman Kaplan and Faulty Towers.
Teacher: Schillerstraße. It is named after Friedrich Schiller. Do you know Schiller? He is a great German hero.

This weekend I plan to visit Rotterdam (again) - the port, Euromast and whatever comes my way. Maybe I will check out the church there. Last Sunday they threw me out in fear.
Hm... Hoek van Holland could be worth the trip - to seeee the seeea.
Or Delft.
On Sunday maybe Groningen to test my dubious Dutch in the extreme Northern conditions.
