You know for a fact 90% of the time I am not on AIM, its just my sn sitting there idle, so I usually put my name on invisible now cause I usually forget to put up an away message to save my screen from the common "hello, sup, where are you?" messages.
so even if I am on, you can't see me.
There is a problem with this though, it only appears invisible to people on my buddy list.
So if you are trying to check my status with a name thats not on my list, you can still conact me.
Though it seems this is not always the case.

But think about I have NO reason to be avoiding you.
