Insulted. . . .

I remember a friend telling me NOT to move into a Senior Apartment building (affectionately referred to as "Geezer Barracks") because the old biddies living there have nothing better to do than gossip about their neighbors, start malicious rumors and generally make life miserable for their targets. Get away, don't let the drama catch up to you. Tell them you couldn't care less what they think, that others HAVE asked for those things from you. Or politely let the others who did ask for them know that you're happy to share with them, but have been told that your offerings aren't appreciated when left where others might happen to frequent, too. There are many options. For myself, I'd go with the first thing I mentioned. Drama - who needs it!?!

I don't plan to get involved in the idiot dramas. However, if I am confronted, I will not back down.

Sounds to me that the phone call wasn't official...and bordered on the fringes of legality, as "hubby" was not in an official place to make the call. Other than that...either post it at the library...or they send you an official notice on office letterhead. "Hubby" is not the librarian...and could easily be brought up on some by-law infraction.

But that leads to drama.

If anything, put in a suggestion for a magazine/catalog exchange program at the library. People bring them in...others borrow or sort through them...and after 2 weeks...they go into the recycle bin.

If they keep complaining...then they either post an official policy on donated magazines, or STFU.
