I had beef with some of his appointments, his ongoing use of drones, and secrecy at times, but overwhelmingly I think he has done a good job. He went eight scandal free years, which is pretty damn good.

Plus, I adore his wife. His entire family is good looking.

I will miss him.

Oddly enough, with the things we can see with Trump going on...I ALMOST miss George W. Bush. *smh*

Yah...I hope we make it through the next few years intact.

seriously... dubya may have been one of the least effective presidents, but at least that man was smart enough to realize he needed a strong cabinet that knew more than him to keep the country going. the president elect however, is just creating a boys club... i hope to god he's only a one term president.

Obama has so much grace. I really wish Michelle could take over from him. I still can't believe what we have coming next. I know I'm not American but the repercussions of the Trump presidency will be felt around the world.

I respect you too and I'm glad we've come to be friends :)

It really is true about understanding people. Probably the thing I love most about LJ is how it allows us to do exactly that, or about as close as we can get to that anyway. And, the respect is mutual btw :)

I'm going to miss Obama, his grace and how he stood with dignity. He did a good job the past eight years, and it can be scary to think what will happen next.

Same. I respect you too and I'm glad we found something in common and became friends in here :)

We absolutely need to learn - or, perhaps, practice - empathy. Not only over the next four years, but in general. The tides of the world are ever-changing, the systems of power transient, though they may seem eternal. This world where all cultures mix is going to affect all peoples involved, whether we like it or not. That's how it has been, and how it will be.

That basic aspect, that HUMAN aspect, is going to be, as it has always been, critical. It always seems as though we are at impasses, that we are unable to solve these problems of conflict, but I hope/believe that, if we stop and look at the human aspect of others and in ourselves, we will figure it out without continuing the cycle of killing and tormenting one another.

A pipe dream, perhaps, but I'm naive enough to keep a shred of it with me always, no matter how jaded the world makes me. Just in case.

The respect is mutual, by the way. :)

I agree with everything you stated here. I am not feeling like making my own comment so I will just tack off of your comment! Hehe.
