[Follows THIS, THIS, THIS and THIS]

Doctors' rounds. Bedside handovers. Seemed really good, in theory. Took the nurses and doctors taking care of a patient to their beside so any vital discussions about their care were in their presence. It gave the patient a chance to know who was caring for them, and to ask questions. The only thing was, it usually involved seeing a string of patients in a row, and because of this, Liam had never really gotten into the habit of pre-empting who he was seeing... looking forward to what patient was next on his handover sheet. In fact, he was still penning in details of the last patient, because he would have to go back there soon for an assessment. A lot of his time was spent doing assessments, that the specialist he was working under and learning from would then analyse and compare to her own assessment to see if he was on the right track. Most patients didn't mind the double assessment, had signed wavers early on to indicate they knew it was a teaching hospital and may get student doctors involved in their process of care. So, no. There was no thought on Liam's behalf to actually know who the next patient was until he, the specialist and another student filed into the patient's room.

Liam was still scribbling one last thing on his sheet as Dr Margaret Veness greeted the patient, obviously having only been there a short while prior for her own assessment. "This is Stuart Evans, Detective Constable, twenty six years old with confirmed complete fractures to the third and forth metacarpals and a hairline to the fifth..." Thank fuck she paused, because Liam suddenly felt like he was going to piss himself, vomit, and pass out all at the same time. His pen froze on the paper and he looked up, almost terrifyingly finding Stuart on the bed staring at him. His facial expressions were blank and unreadable, but Liam felt like those blue eyes were almost physically stabbing him with the force... and not moving from Liam. Liam tried to hold his composure with a heavy swallow and not tune out on what the highly experienced female doctor was saying. But who the fuck could managed to seriously hold their professionalism when the patient looked like he wanted to get his hands around your throat... if that was possible, which it wasn't with the injuries the doctor was describing. "He also has a fracture of the distal radius occurring along the ulna styloid. Resulting from a voluntary hit to a concrete and brick wall during a moment of heightened emotions," she added, giving Stuart a small smile and a squeeze of reassurance to his shoulder. Evidently, this wouldn't be the first injury of this type she had encountered in men. "Stuart isn't left-handed, luckily, so it's not his prominent hand. ER only just managed to salvage his engagement ring by applying a hell of a lot of ice upon arrival or they would have had to cut it off so we could get to the fingers to fix them. Stuart, this is Student Doctors Kimberley Porter and Liam Morgan. Liam will be assessing you tonight and we anticipate that you will be in surgery first thing in the morning. Patient is NBM, please ensure the nurses are aware of this," she requested and then disappeared with the female student, leaving Liam and Stuart alone.

Stuart just continued to stare at Liam for a few more lingering moments, but the young doctor-in-training didn't have a chance to move or open his mouth before Stuart was finally reacted. "Don't touch me," he bit out with a small sneer on his lips, his eyes flashing angrily as he shifted in the bed. When he continued, his voice remained low with a growl to it's edge and he never once took his eyes off Liam. "Be fucking thankful that I need the use of my good hand right now, or so help me fucking god, I would smash your fucking face in right now. You are not going to lay a finger on me. In fact, if you come any closer to me, I will make sure you are never, ever allowed near fucking patients quicker than you can say cocksucker," he hissed. He was in so much pain with his hand, but it had nothing on how much his heart was hurting right now. This was the last fucking thing he needed and it really was a miracle he hadn't demanded loudly and harshly that Liam shoulder get the fuck away from him. He was going to give the Morgan brother a chance to follow his requests without the needed to fuck up his career, though. Stuart might be furious, but he didn't want to ruin anyone's life. At the end of the day, he still really cared about Sophie and didn't want to subsequently hurt her by hurting her brother... even if he really, really wanted Liam to hurt at that moment.

Liam looked down at his sheet helplessly, the urge to burst into tears rapidly being added to that list of peeing, passing out and vomiting. He couldn't fuck this job up, it was so important to him. If he went out there and told Dr Veness the patient didn't want him near him, she would ask questions, a lot of questions. And rightly so. His day could not possibly get any worse than this. He had managed to put it aside in his mind for the sake of his patients, but now Stuart was borderline his patient, that horrible sick feeling was back. No matter what happened in the next few minutes, there was no way Stuart was going to let Liam touch him and Liam had no choice but to deal with that. "I need- Stuart, I-" he stammered. "It wasn't how it looked! We weren't-"

"Stop!" Stuart spat, a little louder this time so there was no mistake that he wanted Liam to shut his bloody mouth. "Shut the fuck up! I dinnae want to hear anything you have to say! I dinnae even want to be looking at you, you make me fucking sick! You are going to turn around and get the fuck outta my sight. You are going to tell your boss we have a conflict of interest, and I really dinnae fucking care what she thinks. You are going to tell her you are not to be involved in my medical care at all. Or I will make it impossible for you to ever legally practice medicine. Fuck off, Liam. I'm sure Tom could use some company."

One thing Liam really wasn't was stupid. He didn't need to be asked twice. He definitely could risk his career. He cared about Tom, but not enough to have his life ruined on his behalf. What was the point, anyway? Stuart wasn't going to listen to him, and if Liam really had been fucking his fiancé behind his back, he would have absolutely sound reason to smash Liam's face in. But Liam was innocent. He would never, ever sleep with someone who was in a relationship. He might be promiscuous, but he despised infidelity. To be suddenly accused of it, in the worst possible way, the only thing he could seem to feel right now was sick. It was all just too much. He turned, and leaving Stuart's room in such a haste, he caught the sleeve of his scrubs on the edge and tore the fabric. He had every intention of finding Dr Veness and telling her... something, anything. He had no idea what. His mind was spinning, and his stomach was churning. It really was just too much, and he hadn't eaten since early that morning. He was only just reaching the nurses' station when the room started feeling like it was spinning. Ironically, any need to tell his supervisor anything in regards to Stuart was plucked away from him when stars appeared in his peripheral vision and he passed out cold in a heavy faint in front of about every possible staff member on duty that night.
