Writing from the future, I would like to inform you that while some people wear cloaks (Star Wars fans, Wiccans), far more people wore then in the past. The Middle Ages, for instance, when the cloak was a normal item of clothing and Europe was overrun with monks of various competing orders. Cars seem to have gotten slightly boxier, although that is a tough call.
