I read with a disbelief the headlines of the Evening Standard the other day declaring that the increase in street crime was due to iPods and mobile phones. Really ( Read more... )

It's mainly due to lacklustre parenting. The kind where you plonk your offspring in front on the pootah/DVD/video game and ignore them for hours on end, giving no stimulation and no attention. Then they don't do well at school, but you're not too fussed because you're not a great parent. Then the kids suddenly realise that they don't need to work anyway, cuz you can nick iPods/trainers/sunglasses/mobiles to feed your drug/booze/loafing habbit, and it's no big deal, everybody's doing it. Therefore, no need for qualifications. And the parents don't know they're out theiving, because they weren't taking any notice of them in the first place.

The lack of society and community dismays me. The fact that people are allowed to breed indiscriminately dismays me. The fact that so few people actually give a shit dismays me.

No no no you've got it all wrong! You can't blame the lazy, soulness, selfish, greedy scum - they're VICTIMS OF SOCIETY. It's obviously the fault of the middle classes with their flashy iPods and mobiles that were just GIVEN to them in exchange for working 50 hour weeks whilst trying to save a deposit for a mortgage, pay off student loans and start a pension. Get real!

nor an increase in Sloggis causing an increase in rape (or a decrease which is more likely).

*laffs!*

It's greed on the crim's part and that's about it. No longer happy with little old ladies handbags containing an invisible and possible £5 in change, seeing a phone or headphones puts an instant, visible worth on their attempts. Blaming the ipods and mobiles is like blaming mini skirts for rape. not allowed to blame muggers for simply being muggers anymore - guess we should have seen that one coming!

I used to wear Sloggis. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to be offended or not.

It wouldn't have mattered to me what brand name it was, the comment was funny, so to be offended or not, I guess depends on whether you want to have a bad day or not ;)

~smiles softly, doffs cap~

It was an honour and a pleasure to finally meet you in the flesh, so to speak.

I look forward to knowing you and yours better in good time.

I've added you to pretty much all my filters, hope that's ok.

See you again soon..

Kat,

It was indeed an honour and a pleasure to finally meet you and what a delight it was. I too look forward to knowing all of you in the fullness of time. We'll be able to catch up more then. I have reciprocated with my filters as well (although I am not a prolific writer as you may notice ;))

Look forward to seeing you soon
