Andrew loses faith in humanity

Today, I am talking to Jill and she informs me of some events that transpire in her religion class. Apparently, a group of kids made the argument that the "enemy" in war needs not be treated as a human being. Only Jill and a few other students spoke out against this. The rest of the class was silent. There are a few issues here. First, the ( Read more... )

Hi, it's Patti Estrada.
I've read about the incident in Jill's religion class and I just think this whole thing is disgusting.
I would love to be a part of your protest against supremacy. When will this protest be taking place?

XOXO

Jesus, that pissed me off. I was shaking for like, 2 hours after the fact. I can't believe people would be that horribly STUPID! As I said (this may be the radical me coming out), the US citizens are blindly following their leaders, not really doing much of ANYTHING to protest. Remind you of a certain Hitler German Reich? We can't be an impartial international policing force if we are so one-minded. One of the best things we have here going for us is diversity. We're slowly but surely losing that, and along with it we're losing our compassion and gaining an "I don't care, it's not me" mentality. We can't act as one huge person, we're not. Sure, we're unified but we're not all in complete agreement. If we were, we wouldn't have democracy or choice. If we keep moving toward the whole "one"/"us-them" mentality, we'll eventually be no better than the Hitler youth, blindly following with no other opinion ( ... )

Not only is Bobby crazy, he's misinformed. The prisoner was beheaded as "revenge" for the humiliation and torture the Iraqi prisoners were forced to put up with. Eye for an eye is their way of doing things. But we're the "land of freedom and equality" Why should we revert to their way of doing things? (I refuse to say "stoop to their level" thanks to the fact that while different from ours, Middle Eastern culture is as advanced and civilized as ours in many regards.)

I always knew BG kids were close-minded idiots, who bleated like a herd of sheep if it looked good to everyone else- but this bleating is a little bit too much for me to handle. It's amazing that in BG, I can find all the closed-minded assholes I want. No need to walk into a Republican convention (or a Democratic one for that matter).

BG kids are not close-minded. Being close-minded means more not accepting others opinions. Just because BG kids HAVE their own unique opinions about the war doesn't mean we are close-minded, it means we are open-minded and civil enough to have friendly arguements and discussions about our individual ideas. We have here a diverse group of Republicans, Democrats and Independents. Just because YOU don't agree with an idea and want to stay close-minded to the theories of others, and don't want to hear what other people have to say DOES NOT make BG people assholes. I'm glad we don't harbor close-minded individuals like yourself...we pride ourselves in being able to discuss. Don't be a hypocrite.

A few are very very close-minded tho...I'll give you that much...but I've seen more people in other schools who don't even have a clue about what is going on, nevermind able to form an opinion.
