Andrew loses faith in humanity

May 17, 2004 16:33

Today, I am talking to Jill and she informs me of some events that transpire in her religion class. Apparently, a group of kids made the argument that the "enemy" in war needs not be treated as a human being. Only Jill and a few other students spoke out against this. The rest of the class was silent. There are a few issues here. First, the ( Read more... )

Okay, I told my sis all about this and she's gonna start a like movement at her school. If you could make just a few extra for us,t hat'd be cool. Maybe some day after school we can get together and work on them.

Idea: If this gets good enough, mind using the media in our favor? We can call a local station and see if they'll do a story on the anti-war students. Not likely, but still a possability. Keep it in mind.

aight, let's clear a few things up...pacifist...i just don't get u, no offense meant, ur goals and views r worthy of praise, but ask just about any psychologist and they'll tell u that violance is ingrained into the human psyche...it's a primal instinct, and cannot be removed. next...all u do is talk about how people who believe in the war are wrong, and how we "blindly" follow our leaders...it sounds to me alomst like ur blinded by ur beliefs, i thought that u were willing to accept other people's thoughts, but now i see u r just as in the dark as u believe everyone else to be. concerning the iraqi abuses, tell me, have any of u been in the military? have u ever been sent somewhere with other people who r willing to give their lives for u? and then u watch ur friend die, right next to...and then u get ur hands on the guy who just killed ur friend...tell me, do u really think u r going to be able to restrain urself from trying to extract revenge? please...get off ur damn soapbox...u guys r no better than the rest of us, yet u think u ( ... )

wow, I thought it was in the constitution I didn't have to earn my rights? Did I miss the clause that says I have to wear dog tags for them? Get off your soap box, you're the one writing a paragraph justifying the glowstick-sodomizing and and TORTURE (although abuse would also fit) of other human beings who according to this county's beliefs have the same rights as you and me. I am getting one of those armbands just because I read that. I hope my protest still counts if its partially out of spite... :)

*huggles Bobby* It's alright, Bobby. I respect your thoughts, I really do. I agree that war is necessary at times, but not now, not at all. We went in without UN approval (well, why do we have the UN then, do tell me?). I appreciate people who fight for my right to keep my freedom; however this is an offensive war, not meant to protect me at all. I can substantiate this by refering to the fact that we found no weapons of mass destruction, and I have heard no solid evidence that Al Quaida and the Iraqui nation are one and the same. In fact, I'm fairly certain that one does not directly entail the other. Therefore we have no right to be torturing prisoners who have done nothing against us (yes, they were only there for interrogation). And the severing of that soldier's head? That was in retaliation. We acted first. By your own sanctioning of "Eye for an eye", that's perfectly reasonable ( ... )

first and foremost, I'm glad this discussion is taking place. Almost more important than what people think about an issue is THAT they think, rather than following others ( ... )
