Don't blame men in general, m'dear. Blame circumstance, and blame setting. Most men you'll meet out in the open are shallow douche bags. Honestly, the same goes for women, though obviously adapted to their specific gender roles, which you alluded to.

Look deeper. And above all, know yourself before attempting to know others. You'd be shocked at how much you can learn about what's outside by mastering what's inside. Though, now that I think about it, you have a stronger sense of self than most people I know...
