Wesley let out a small sigh of relief when Rupert said he understood. Truth be told, if he had pressed, he probably would have agreed to leave and gone with him, but he felt that he had to stay where he was right now. Especially because of his friends.
However, his relief was short-lived as Rupert began to talk about leaving Buffy behind, how he felt responsible for what had happened because he hadn't been there. Willow had told him a bit about what had happened a few months earlier, but Wesley had had no idea that Rupert blamed himself, and it broke his heart, hearing him talk about it.
"Rupert, you are a good man," he told him, moving his hand to cup the back of his head and pressing his forehead to his. "We've both made mistakes - things we did because we thought it was for the best. We can't...we can't dwell on that anymore, or I think it might eat us up inside."
He looked into Rupert's eyes. "We should move forward. Together, right? Never not going to be a part of each other's lives again."
