Why is this the best song ever?

Jesus, the bass line alone is enough, but no, Tears for Fears just had to throw in the synth! Too much. The video kinda sucks, but I like the nerd in TfF and the monkey seems alright too. Honestly, my parents used to play this album alot back in the day ('85 or '86) and it's just stuck with me ever since. SPECIAL MESSAGE: Aaron R, you can't hate

Not the best song ever, but the best song on their terrible follow up to The Hurting, which is a much better album. I prefer that album's bitter message of hopeless grief to the more upbeat and bright tempos of Songs from the Big Chair, which I find to be too urban contemporary.

Perhaps "Songs from the Big Chair," (which one negative review said might refer to a toilet) marked the end of New Wave for better or worse.

The album had 4 hit singles that were played continously on Top 40 radio. Shortly therefter New Wave bands such as the Cure, the Bunnymen and the Smiths got radio play, something akin to hearing Blackalicious or Mos Def on Power 93.

It was the end of an era where you had to go to SoCal and tape KROQ to hear something new or have a friend who made you tapes of stuff you couldn't find at any record store or lived just on the other side of the Mesa/Gilbert line where MTV was part of the cable package.

I'm guessing that the bass line comes from a synth because that's how music was manufactured back in those days.

Upon further reflection, I would have to say TfF had the opportunity to do what the Beatles did with the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds, a direct influence on Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

oh it's totally time to get my feet off of this ground and onto another continent. in fact, it's been overdue for quite some time. come wednesday, i'm so gone! :D (but i have to wait for barcelona until august.. )

It's funny to see where you comment on my page, usually nearly a month back or so. You ought to totally move back to AZ, although even I'll admit Barcelona won my heart. I want to go back soon, but I want to know a lil catalan before I do return.
