I would say perhaps a letter or call to your post office is in order. My vague heard-on-tv-or-in-a-movie understanding about the mail is that there are federal laws making sure we citizens get our mail. If a mail carrier is just stuffing mail into an incorrect box, on purpose, that's...that's just not right. I mean, if anything, if she's claiming she can't deliver mail because of a locked door, then the correct response is *not* to stuff it into some other mailbox!?! The correct response would be to notify you that she attempted to deliver the mail and could not, woudln't it? Good luck!
I am convinced that, not only does our mail carrier not speak/read English, s/he is unable to match the funny marks on the front of the envelopes with the funny marks on the top of our mail boxes. I routinely check both boxes for mail. I am also missing a package and have heard some bad things about the Medford PO in general. *sigh*
I'm in Malden, not Medford. I'm incensed that my mail delivery was awesome, until recently. Either she's a new carrier, or she's suddenly taken leave of her ability to 'brain' properly.
Still, I shouldn't bitch too hard. When I was in Somerville, we got mail for streets in no way shape or form close to ours in name, up to 5 blocks away, so long as they had our house #.
Actually, though it may seem like giving in, it may be simpler to get a couple mail boxes and mount them to the wall next to your doors and label them in HUGE letters so she doesn't even have to open a door, just lift a lid.
Uh, I suppose I'll resort to that if I have to, but I'm going to resist for now. On the grounds that, no, it's not acceptable that I should have to go out and get some kind of 'dummy' mailbox just because someone lacks the gumption or clue to open a simple screen door. I don't make it a policy to pander to this kind of lameness. Now that I've verbally corrected her, if she continues to persist in being lazy or addled, I'm going to bitch to my local PO.
