I don't know-- how could you live with no real goal, no real sense of purpose? That is one of the uses of school: it provides a goal, and a series of paths to reach that goal, for 17 years. Even is you don't really care about school, it gives a clear story arc, if you will, to your life. So college isn't really that hard. No, let me rephrase that: college can be hard, but it is not complex. The rules are clear, the goals are set.

As for taking a year off, I don't know if I would be able to stand having nothing to do. Wouldn't you get bored in that year? Partying can only be fun for so long, and traveling will certainly grow wearisome.

And nobody who takes AP classes can truly say that they are "doing the bare minimum".

Well, the purpose would be to live. To ponder, to figure things out...I'm not sure how to explain it. Let's put it this way: the purpose, the goal, would be to find goals, find questions. My sort of main goal, as I see it now, is pretty broad and simple: live a happy life and create and maintain meaningful relationships. That's my life goal. I don't need the specific goals such as "get an A in this class" or "finish all homework" or something like that, those goals that school provides.

And I wouldn't take a year off to party. Simply does not interest me. That's a waste of time. maybe I would take a year off to gain some real-world experience, some maturity. Some sort of understanding...now I'm beginning to think transcendentally. >.<

And I don't think college will be hard. The actual work, I mean. It's the independence, the living, the self-reliance at the same time as the workload that will be challenging.

As for having nothing to do--quite the opposite. There's so much to do. You have an entire year of free time, with which you ( ... )

Yes, but you can often do the bare minimum of AP standards.

I know the feeling, then again I'm just freshmen over here so I guess it hasn't hit me as hard but still kinda is a heavy weight, don't you just hate being indecisive?

I don't know...

(Joke had to be made. And yes, I do hate feeling indecisive, and I often feel that way).

well this is my reason for conintuing out of High school, Because every year is one year less to be there. College life is so much better because there are not that many rules resticting you, you work on your own time and are more responsible. So taking off a year to do nothing?!!? thats crazy, thats you do when you are 65 not 17. At 17 enjoy life, and as for doing the Bare minimum i seriously doubt that, i do the barest of bare, i have stopped doing work at all, i mean period so thats the bare minimum. Get high school finished before taking a year off if you do decided too.

Well, obviously finishing high school. I meant, taking a year off in between high school and college. But I think that just because one is in college and having more freedom does not automatically make one more responsible. Also, it wouldn't be to do nothing, it would be, as you say, to enjoy life, to live life. Just differently.
