I like the concept but I don't know that I'm thrilled with this picture. Pomagranites are so rich in color and it's just getting completely washed out here by all the light coming in from the window. I think that if you cropped out the window completely it would be a much stronger picture. Also, if you are going to do more I would shoot on a white surface so that you can see the color of the juice.
I really like the layout of the slices, the lonely seed and the knife, just not contrasty enough I guess. I definitely think though that you are on the right track with this one.
I'm not thrilled with it either. The B&W version is better, despite completely losing the rich colors of the pomegranite, and still being... Not what I would have wanted it to be. If I get another Pomegranite, I'll do better.
I am going to disagree with this, and also with some statements below, of it being more about kitchen prep than human violence. The photographer may have had one or the other of those in mind, but I think that the bluish-magenta cast to the picture and the table-top make your first reaction one of horror before you realize that it's just fruit. The color cast doesn't take full advantage of vibrant hues of a pommegranit, yes, but it does make you wonder what animal that was for a second. If the photographer's intent was not to make this parallel, and more to benefit from the aesthetics of the pommegranit, then yes, I'd agree that the color palette should take advantage of the natural colors more. But before you fire off a "your color's all wrong" think about what message the choices the photographer made might be sending.
The photographer was pretty much thinking in black and white, and just popped the digital image up to show what he was working on. :) Don't have any way right now to show my prints or negatives (well, no way that produces images worth the effort, anyway

get an emerson knife, maybe the p-sark bts (police search and rescue, black tanto serrated) http://www.saroutfitter.com/Emerson/SARK-BTS.jpg my favorite knife i own (neglecting illegal ones, b/c those are just more fun in concept)
You don't think it gains a little from the banality of the OXO GoodGrips kitchen knife? As an expression of the violence in everyday activity, i.e. food preparation, I thought it would be ideal to use the knife I use most often when cutting fruit in my own kitchen (or what passes for a kitchen in my apartment).
I would agree with you on the knife choice. Your not using the fruit as a metaphor for the violence of the human nature, but actually taking a look more at the process of slicing and dicing our food.
