Yeah, I must admit I felt a little sorry for him on the show... even as he was trying to murder Bobby.

Dean really had a torturous time of it in this, didn't he? In canon, he never had to spend so much time in the overlap zone between Sam and Sambot -- not after he knew what was wrong with "Sam". Sambot kept Sam's body in peak condition and his mind clear and sharp. He didn't need Dean's help with any of that ( ... )

On the show, while I understood Dean's repulsion and total rejection of soulless!Sam-- talk about uncanny valley, I can't imagine having to go through that with one of my loved ones; the idea is horrifying-- I always wished he'd struggled a little more with it. So I couldn't help wonder what would happen if the thing began to evoke sympathy. Hence the fic. I'm very glad you enjoyed it, thank you for reading!
