This is clearly why we need a whole foods market/ trader joe's around here. I could actually AFFORD to get organic and/or much much healthier/ less preservatives food there! I couldn't get a whole lot of frozen or refrigerated stuff since we were carrying it across the state, clearly, but I could seriously afford the things that they had there. Well, some of them. But it's different than at meijer, where you have just a certain special selection of very expensive stuff.

I know that all the crazy chemicals and hormones and stuff are related to why I got period on my 10th birthday and why some girls have gotten them at 8 years old. This is scary, scary stuff. Something like getting a period earlier in life doesn't seem like a big deal-- it's certainly not a terminal disease-- but yes, it's scary shit.

It would love to read in future entries about cheap organic food/healthier options of food in your LJ!

you probably will.

i've been messing around on this community called cheapvegan, and that's pretty cool. i'm going to try this chocolate soy milk/bananas/peanut butter smoothie tomorrow. mmmmm. *drools*

there's lots of good stuff if you just do a lj interest search for "vegan," even if you're not vegan. :)

Do you have a Trader Joe's? If so, they're a great natural foods store that's set up pretty much like a grocery store. If not that one, you may have another - look around. I was really impressed a couple of weeks ago - I found organic bananas at a regular grocery store, and they are 50 billion times better than the "normal" ones up here - *almost* as good as they are down in Mexico.

we do have a small natural food store here, but it tends to be drastically more expensive than the mainstream store, and i just can't afford that sort of thing most of the time. i do buy from there when i can, though, and love it.

i'm probably going to be moving to the twin cities in the next six months, and they have a tremendous amount of food co-ops and other natural food stores. i can't wait. :)

i'd love to catch up with you sometime - i think we really need to. unfortunately, i'm only making it back to the city about once a year these days, which has done wonders for my sanity in about a thousand different ways, but surely hasn't done much for my friendships with people out there. :/

i've got about seven weeks left until i graduate, and i honestly don't see a trip to d-town in the works until after that. however, it looks like i'm going to be moving to minneapolis in july, so i'm sure i will be coming back for a week or so at some point. i've got some serious catching up to do with a lot of people (you included) before i run off to graduate school.

so, it's bittersweet, but yes. we will get together. i promise. :)
