Conversion Experience

Woohoo!  I've finally decided what conversion to use for my zi8 videos to use them in Windows Movie Maker and make the videos I want to do about Andrew.

For much of the last week I've been busy with cleaning the apartment (always a big operation by the time I get to it) and yesterday the piano tuner came as well, which kept me distracted.  I really ( Read more... )

Well, the cut didn't work the way I wanted it to. It was supposed to include the last paragraph, as well, but it doesn't seem to like that idea. Sorry.

So what program are you using now? I'm hoping to piggyback on all the research you did and avoid having to do it myself? What are the programs you tried out? I'll download the free trials and give them a go myself. If you don't mind.

The ones I tried and have decided not to use are Pazera Free MOV to AVI Converter; Hamster Free Video Converter, and iOrgSoft Kodak Video to WMM converter. The iOrgSoft converter leaves a huge watermark in the middle of your video unless you pay for it.

I tried the Microsoft Expressions Encoder 3 and was pretty happy with it, but I like the updated version better: Microsoft Expressions Encoder 4. Here are the settings/procedures I'm planning to use for this video:

In MEE4, import the MOV file. Choose Best Quality in the Encoding Quality menu, and IIS Streaming in the Video mode menu. I'm leaving all the other settings alone for now. This creates a file with filetype .ism. I import THAT file into Windows Live Movie Maker 2011, click on Save Movie, and it produces a .wmv file as output. Then I will use the .wmv file in my older version of Windows Movie Maker, because the Live version is ridiculously primitive, and I don't know how anyone can work with it.

Well, not quite right. You choose IIS Smooth Streaming in the Media Output menu in MEE4. This produces an ism file and a whole bunch of other files whose filetype I don't remember. I choose the last of these to import to WLMM 2011.
