My other job interview today wasn't so great; they said they had a TON of applicants so I think I'll eliminate myself from the competition. I just got a general bad vibe from the interviewer -- he was nice enough, but quick to belittle any kind of experience I had (I understand why he was being tough, because he needed to narrow down the ( Read more... )

THAT IS STUPID. Why interview a ton of people? STUPID. That's what the letter & resume are about!!! If you don't look right, you don't get the interview! They can see from those docs your experience (if it's ~not right~ or whatever shit) They can see that you're a grad student and automatically go "no sorry this job is too busy for you." GAH.

not only is it a waste of their time and yours, it made you feel bad and "strongly consider rushing out to get that" licence. >>>>( SIF having a car makes you get to work on time. that is pure faggotry

ON THE OTHER HAND: that other job sounds ace and I hope you love it! Three hours in the middle of the day is pretty great - how long would it take you to get therE?

Well, to be fair to him, I don't think I put anywhere on my resume that I was going into grad school, so once he understood that I was it was his responsibility to strongly discourage me. It's not really his fault. Still a little irritating. I applied for the job because I thought I could do it along with classes, because they said 25-30 flexible hours a week. Then in the interview, they say it can get closer to 40, and there will be production weeks (it's a dance company) where we need much more of your time, etc. It's a job for someone with a lot more free time than me.

It takes me about 10-15 minutes to bike to that job from my house, or less, if I pedal less lazily. And it's on the less busy, not-downtown side of the city. Plus it involves books! It's pretty perfect!

Ok. But still, you don't interview everyone who applies!

15min bikeride sounds pretty cruisey :)

(I DON'T like when employers misrepresent their jobs in want ads. That is the second time someone's advertised a job as X hours and it turns out to be "X hours, but also a lot of the time it's 40 hours". The first job I interviewed for had said 8-15 hours and then corrected it to 40 hours in the interview! Man, get a different person to write your want ads!)

I don't have a driver's license! Agree with everything you wrote on the matter.

There are more of us non-licensed people than people think! Sometimes I tell people I don't have a license and they're like "wow, how do you LIVE?" And I say, it's pretty easy!

Remember that you're interviewing them, too! If they're negative about their employees, or something seems suspicious in the interview, you don't want to work for them anyway. Good luck!
